This Quarter's Impact:

Expanding Housing Access Across Atlanta

As the first quarter of 2026 comes to a close, we continue to build on a year of meaningful progress - expanding partnerships, strengthening systems, and helping more Atlantans access stable housing.

One of the most significant milestones of this work is the collaborative success of Downtown Rising, led by Partners for Home. Alongside several nonprofit partners, we joined in this effort to move more than 400 individuals from unsheltered homelessness into permanent housing. As Downtown Rising continues to expand and evolve, we remain committed to supporting this momentum.

We're also excited to share that in 2025, we successfully housed 570 adults, 380 children and 113 veterans. These numbers represent 506 households that found affordable and sustainable housing through Open Doors. Each placement reflects not just progress, but the scale of need for affordable housing in our city.

As we move into 2026, we’re building on these efforts to deepen our impact and reach even more people across Atlanta.

Warm regards,

Open Doors Team

Nonprofit Partner Highlights

We’re encouraged to see continued investment in community-centric solutions that support our neighbors experiencing homelessness. The Salvation Army’s new Center of Hope, recently opened in downtown Atlanta, will expand access to safe shelter while creating pathways toward long-term stability.

The five-story facility will significantly increase shelter capacity and introduce new resources, including a dedicated Workforce Development Center offering job training, financial education, and housing support services.

Projects like these reflect a growing commitment across Atlanta to meet immediate needs, and invest in long-term solutions for individuals and families working to rebuild their lives.

Meet Frank Bussey III

Frank Bussey III is a Veteran who served in the U.S. Army until July 2023 when he was honorably discharged due to an injury.

Since being back in Atlanta, court fees from a recent divorce led him to being unable to afford stable housing, and he turned to living with friends.

Through the Department of Veterans Affairs' Center for Resources and Referrals (CRRC), he was referred to Open Doors Housing Support Navigator Carlos Simmons.

With the support of The Home Depot LOVE Fund and our team, Frank was housed within 10 days of completing the intake process. Frank's move-in costs and first month of rent were covered, to provide him with the support needed to begin to rebuild his life, without the financial strain that a move-in can cause - allowing for a true fresh start.
