SPRING

NEWSLETTER

Director's Corner

As we welcome the arrival of spring, there’s a renewed sense of energy and excitement here at the Somers Library. After a busy fall and winter season, we are preparing for one of our most vibrant times of the year—when foot traffic nearly doubles and our building is filled with even more activity, connection, and discovery.

Incredible Library Staff
I want to take a moment to recognize our incredible library staff, whose dedication and hard work make everything we do possible. Their creativity, flexibility, and commitment to our community continue to shine through every program, service, and interaction. During National Library Week, we will also celebrate National Library Workers Day on Tuesday, April 21, 2026—please join me in stopping by the library that day to thank our wonderful staff for all that they do.

Celebrate National Library Week

This spring, we are especially excited to celebrate from April 19–25, along with Earth Day festivities. We are happy to serve as a host site for the town’s Energy and Environment Committee as they bring engaging programs and events to the community, including initiatives like the Repair Café.

Our Friends of the Library group continues to be an incredible source of support. In celebration of National Library Week, they have put together and supplied wonderful raffle baskets to help raise funds for the library, and they are also launching a new donor initiative to further support our services and programs.

Summer Sneak Peek

Looking ahead, Summer will bring the return of our popular Summer Reading programs for children, teens, and adults, as well as our annual partnership with the town camp.

Behind the Scenes

We are making important strides forward. We are preparing to go out to bid on construction for our Teen Room Renovation and a new HVAC system—projects that will greatly improve our space for years to come. I know the Teen Room renovation has been a long time coming, and I am so excited to finally bring it to light! Thanks to the support of Assemblyman Matt Slater, who secured Bullet Aid funding for the Somers Library, we will be purchasing new guest chairs to replace outdated and broken seating throughout the building.

There are so many exciting changes ahead as we look toward the rest of 2026 and beyond. I encourage you to stop in, explore, and be part of all the wonderful things happening here at your library.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Kind regards,

Jessica Veissy, Library Director

Tickets are 1 for $5, 3 for $10, or 10 for $20, and the drawing will take place during Library Week (April 20–25).

Totes and More

While you're here, you can also support the library by purchasing a tote bag ($10) or a makeup bag/pencil case ($5). Each features fun, book-themed designs with quotes like “No Shelf Control.” They also make great Mother’s Day gifts!

There are even more ways to support the Somers Library. Consider becoming a donor or volunteering at events. New donors will be entered into a special prize drawing, and donations can be made easily through our Venmo account. Contributions help fund library programs and resources beyond the operating budget.

New President

Finally, we’re pleased to welcome our new Friends president, Mary Jane Volfson, a Somers local. Mary Jane recently brought us a lively trivia night—an event we look forward to hosting again!

Thank You, Susan

We also extend our sincere thanks to outgoing president Susan Berkow for her many years of dedicated service. Mary Jane recently brought us a lively trivia night—an event we look forward to hosting again!
