Spring 2026 Newsletter 

 

Happy spring, y’all! We hope you and your family enjoyed the snow from the wintertime and are ready to thaw out in time for the warmer weather. 

 

Check out what we’ve been up to while we’ve ‘hibernated’ below!

Our program has: 

 

Scheduled six Bicycle Safety Week sessions with schools across Chatham County where we’ll demonstrate proper helmet safety and put on bicycle rodeos for over 600 Kindergartners! 

 

Hosted a regional planning session with coordinators based in Durham, Wake County, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro to determine the future of a unified, region-wide SRTS program 

 

Packaged over 600 water bottles full of SRTS-branded pencils, pencil sharpeners, wristbands, and stickers 

 

Applied for the NCDOT Bicycle Helmet Initiative grant 

 

Planned logistics for our April bicycle rodeos in Siler City and Goldston 

 

Provided youth helmet fitting demonstrations to UNC Health pediatric residents 

 

Coordinated with the Safe Kids Chatham network to include bicycle & water safety pamphlets in our water bottles 

 



We have some exciting events coming up, including bicycle rodeos at: 

 

Virginia Cross Elementary School, Siler City 

Siler City Elementary School, Siler City 

J. S. Waters School, Goldston 

North Chatham Elementary School, Chapel Hill 

Chatham Grove Elementary School, Pittsboro 

Perry Harrison Elementary School, Pittsboro 


We’re also partnering with Scouting America, Occoneechee Council to host bicycle rodeos later this year and with Chatham & Orange County to ensure the program sustains regionwide for years to come!
