What We're Reading
By Elisabeth Egan

This novel, which came out in 2015, primarily explores the elusive idea of work-life balance, through a suburban mother’s eyes.

It’s at times laugh-out-loud funny, other times biting in its comments about work colleagues, their jargon, and the battle between e-books and paper books.

While the theme of writing about “having it all” isn’t new, Egan makes some sharp observations about motherhood and caring for an ailing parent.

Egan also wrote an excellent piece in The New York Times recently
on the classic children’s book, Good Night Moon.

What We're Listening To
Ferriss, who wrote ‘The 4-Hour Workweek’ and several other bestselling books, has more than 650 episodes on his popular podcast.

He interviews an interesting and eclectic group of guests, including writers, physicians, athletes, and mental health professionals. One of his most recent interviews was with sleep expert Dr. Matthew Walker.

Ferriss’ shows can run long and there are a lot of ads, particularly at the beginning of each episode. Do yourself a favor and skip the first five minutes or so of each episode to get to the interview.

Check it out on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
Tip of the Month: Importance of Connection
February can be the hardest month of the year for many of us. The major holidays are behind us, and it tends to be the coldest and snowiest month. After already experiencing two months of winter, spring can feel a long way away.

That's why It’s critical to prioritize your mental health during this time. Besides the usual suspects – regular exercise, proper sleep, and a healthy diet – socializing with friends and loved ones, even when we sometimes don’t want to, can make a big difference in our mood.

Part of the reason winter can be so difficult is the sense of isolation we feel. Connection with others is
the antidote.
