Dear Jane,

It's like spring most of the year: book a Blooming (Re)treat at La Maison Anglaise

While spring is traditionally a time of renewal, in Taroudant it can feel like spring for most of the year. At this time, our gardens are especially vibrant with blooms and lush greenery, thanks to our recycled grey water system, which we treat and save for irrigation. However, flowers and growth can be seen throughout our main season (September to May). As Sir John Mortimer, the famous barrister and author, who visited Taroudant each year for over 30 years, wrote in the Guardian in 2000:

"The landscape is full of mountains, and it is very beautiful and sunny in January. I can sit under the trees in the garden and write, with the roses and carnations already in flower. Please don't go to Taroudant, because I like it so much that I don't want too many English visitors coming to spoil it". He'd be glad to know it's still not spoilt by tourists!

Why not pair the magic of our gardens with one of our unique group holidays? Find Your Melody with a singing group, Move in Motion with a circle dance group, or Be Mindful with a yoga group or painting group. All our group holidays reflect the peaceful, present-moment awareness of our retreats, where there’s something for everyone.

Experience Morocco’s stunning landscapes, from the majestic High Atlas Mountains to oases to the stark Anti-Atlas Mountains to the charming streets of Taroudant. And with our eco-friendly ethos, you can enjoy your holiday knowing you’re supporting sustainable practices and local communities.

A Paradise Garden

We have created a “Paradise Garden” of the type described in the Koran which always feature 4 drought-resistant trees pictured below, all of which have such health-giving fruits: date, pomegranate, fig and olive. We also have more exotic fruits like argan, pomelo, loquat, quince, guava and mulberry. It's a feast for the 5 senses:

  • See beautiful colours, shapes, shadow and vistas

  • Smell the lovely fragrance such as roses, citrus blossom, jasmine, herbs… (and lovely cooking smells from the kitchen!).

  • Feel the textures of the plants and the other elements of the garden (the pots, the tiles etc).

  • Hear the birds and the trickle of water in the fountains or as it flows into our grey water tank.

  • Taste the sun-ripened fruits, herbs and vegetables including more exotic foods like loquats and guava.

Fabulous Recent Testimonials: Morocco

"The holiday was an amazing break for me, spiritually and physically. You have created the most beautiful sanctuary with the kindest and friendliest of staff to look after us. Thank you."

Jean, May 2025

Once again I experienced a wonderful holiday in the stunning La Maison Anglaise. I was delighted to find that I was back in room 4 and immediately felt at peace. It was lovely to see the familiar staff and their smiling faces. They work so hard to accommodate all their guests and would appear to love their work. I thoroughly enjoyed the two new organised trips and found them so interesting and thought provoking. As an active member of an art club I loved seeing the workshops and the new, still to be complete but impressive arts centre. The visit to the Berber castle was fascinating and memorable and of course our return to the palace was interesting. So, full marks Jane, Marie and Steven and congratulations on the latest award which is clearly deserved.

Thank you and love"

Flo, March 2025

"Thank you so much for this timely reminder & information. As always, your attention to detail & support is much appreciated & a key factor in contributing to a wonderfully relaxing holiday.

Warmest wishes & grateful thanks"

Trish, March 2025

"I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my holiday in Morocco. Every detail was taken care of and it was the most relaxing holiday I’ve ever had. Your Morocco team are so efficient and friendly, especially the magnificent Latifa, who is really a gem. The eco-lodge is beautiful and you must be very proud of its eco credentials. I was in food heaven from start to finish and already practising my Moroccan cookery skills. I can’t think of anything needing improvement and would definitely like to visit again."

Susan, Feb 2025

"The Craft Tour and the visit to the Berber Agadir (Castle) are really good additions to the programme and were enjoyed immensely under the expert guidance of 'little' Said' who is so knowledgeable - both tours so very interesting. Well done you for including them!" Jane, March 25

Introducing New Tutors for 2026/27

We are happy to welcome and introduce new tutors to our ecolodge. With a variety of groups on offer, we are pleased to add two Art tutors, Victoria and Claire, and a Singing tutor, Ellie, to our list of wonderful tutors.

Morocco in Mixed Media

with Victoria Fifield - 29 April - 6 May 2026

Victoria is a mixed media artist whose vibrant, textured work draws inspiration from the landscapes and cultures of the Middle East and North Africa. A graduate of Gray’s School of Art and the University of Glasgow, she has exhibited across the UK, including solo shows like Khamsin and Mahgreb.

Victoria is also a violinist, writer, and experienced educator, known for her imaginative teaching style that blends visual art, music, and storytelling to deepen creative engagement in schools, museums, and community settings.

Singing with Ellie Holliday

25 November - 2 December 2026

For her own choirs only

Based in Stroud, Ellie Holliday has been leading choirs and teaching polyphonic world music for over 23 years. Her immersive, healing, and challenging approach to group singing has shaped thriving choirs such as Springhill Singers, Acapellies, and Acapeeps.

With a background in theatre and a passion for composition, Ellie creates powerful choral works like Resonance and Songs of Fortitude, which bring communities together around shared experiences. She also teaches at institutions including the Schumacher Wild MA and West Dean College, and regularly hosts workshops, singing holidays, and wellbeing sessions.

Painting & Sketching with Claire Chandler 20 - 27 January 2027

Claire Chandler is a London-based abstract artist whose work captures the emotional essence of landscapes through energetic brushwork and layered colour. After BA in Fine Art is from the University of Northumbria, her paintings rooted in on-location charcoal sketches, later transformed into tranquil, memory-infused compositions.

Claire teaches at West Dean College and runs private workshops from her studio, while also serving as artist-in-residence at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Her work has been shown at the ING Discerning Eye, the Royal Society of British Artists, and international art fairs, with a solo show in spring 2026 at the Jeannie Avent Gallery.

Exciting New Sustainable Water and Energy Projects for Morocco by 2030

As announced yesterday, 20th May 2025, we are excited to tell you that there will be massive re-engineering of critical national infrastructure by 2030 providing both renewable energy (mainly from solar but also some from wind) and water.

Key features are:

  • 4 major seawater desalination facilities, the largest of which will be 350-million-cubic-meter facility to supply our region (the Souss Valley, the main fruit and vegetable area of Morocco)
  • a colossal 1,400-kilometer high-voltage (3,000 megawatt) transmission corridor to transfer electricity the Western Sahara to Casablanca
  • in addition it will provide 25,000 employment opportunities through construction and operation, with 10,000 permanent positions after commissioning

Travel News

When Booking a holiday with us, we always encourage people to

1) Book early in order to get the best price and seats - easyJet released flights until June 2026 recently. We will instruct you when to do this

2) Let us know exactly which flights or train you have booked (flight code, departure and arrival airport, dates (including you whether you arrive in Morocco before the group) and times so that we can arrange transfers.

We will always help to guide you in this process

1) Inform you of the flights that we will meet you from.

2) If you choose to make alternative travel arrangements (are travelling overland, are already in Morocco or on different flights) you should aim to arrive at our ecolodge about 1.5 hours after the arrival time of the flight. We can send a taxi to pick you up for a fair price if you need it. But if you want to arrive by public transport it is clear how to find us here

3) Emphasise the need to book travel insurance now.

All members of the group are responsible for booking their own flights and it is essential to book them soon in order to be sure of the reasonable prices and to get seats. We have had clients having to pay 2 or 3 times as much for flights as a result of not acting quickly.

Please note that Arrival and Departure airports are NOT the same for your flights, so in order to book, you need to select a ONE-WAY flight for the first leg.

If you do fly try to support this remarkable afforestation project

As most of our guests do take advantage of the new and existing routes serving Agadir, we always encourage people to offset their journey by making a donation to this excellent organisation that we support.
