Spring Break Round Up Returns March 9th

TRHFM is pleased to announce the return of Spring Break Round Up on Saturday, March 9th. Texas Top Guns reenactors will delight guests with their recreation of a late 1800s camp scene and we will host our first Ranger Talk of 2024.

Artifact Spotlight: Colt Bisley .45

We recently received a generous donation of this engraved Colt Bisley .45 from 1904. The pistol was engraved by Phil E. Hudson in 1984. Hudson worked as a firearm engraver for many Texas Rangers during the 1980s-1990s. The pistol is nickel and 14k gold plated. The grips are mother of pearl and you can see a Ranger badge and the words "Texas Rangers" in the detailed decoration. It was donated in memory of Robert Rose.

Hollywood Visits TRHFM

On January 25th, four Hollywood actors known for their guest roles in many Western television shows and movies visited:

  • Johnny Davis - has appeared in the current Walker, Texas Ranger and Yellowstone as well as Bass Reeves and 1883 TV series.
  • Moe Headrick - currently starred as the Sheriff in the highly acclaimed film Killers of the Flower Moon, nominated for ten academy awards. He worked on the original Walker, Texas Ranger with Chuck Norris and is a longtime actor/ producer/ writer and stuntman.
  • Red Mitchell - appeared in many seasons of Walker, Texas Ranger along with his friend Moe. He has also appeared in the new Walker on the CW Network. He was also in Yellowstone and Bass Reeves
  • Lavon Light - has appeared in Yellowstone and the new Walker series. He has also recently signed on to the new Taylor Sheridan series Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton. Red Mitchell will be joining that series cast as well.

Ranger Forensic Training

This January, the Texas Rangers held a forensic training at the historical center for new Rangers. In the pictures below, Rangers learn to photograph and lift handprints left in dust or powder on metal surfaces. Outside, they learned to cast footprints left in the park grounds.

TRHFM Featured by Two Media Outlets

In the past week, TRHFM has been featured by two media outlets. The first was by MSN.com titled “30 museums everyone should visit at least once in Texas, according to Tripadvisor reviewers (msn.com).”

Four Waco museums, namely The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, the Waco Mammoth National Monument, Mayborn Museum Complex and the Dr Pepper Museum, have made it to this coveted top 2% list. TRHFM was ranked #6 statewide.

There are over 1,314 museums in Texas, including more than 1,000 history museums. These four Waco museums share the distinction with other much larger renowned institutions such as Space Center Houston, The Alamo, The Perot Museum, The George W. Bush & LBJ Presidential Libraries and the Kimbell Art Museum.

In the second feature by Fort Cavazos Sentinel is titled “Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum puts star in Lone Star.” Blair Dupre visited the Museum and documented it for the paper. Dupre wrote, “As someone who enjoys learning about true crime, my favorite part of the museum are the exhibits on the Rangers’ efforts in fighting crime both in the past and today.”

The long-term efforts of many supporters made these features and achievements possible, and we thank them.
