Tech Services Librarian Becky McDole

3/24/78 - 3/01/25

Library staff grieve our coworker Becky McDole, who died on March 1st after almost 3 years of serving as the Technical Services Librarian here. In addition to her dry sense of humor and her deep knowledge of books and authors, Becky contributed so much behind the scenes to the library:

  • She selected and ordered our adult fiction collection, consulting a long list of sources to find the books our patrons would most enjoy. If you’ve read an adult fiction book from MPL, you’ve probably read something Becky chose!
  • She oversaw and cleaned up our catalog. If you’ve ever searched for a book or topic in our catalog, Becky’s work helped you find it.
  • She fixed every broken computer and helped troubleshoot any tech issue that ever went wrong at the library. If you’ve used a library computer, it was Becky who made sure it worked.
  • She used her coding skills to update our website, allowing you to sign up for programs and find information about library services.
  • She planned and orchestrated our library floor move in 2023 to help reorganize our adult and young adult collections to make books easier to find.

Becky was always finding ways to make library operations better and more efficient. But more than any of this, we will miss Becky’s quick wit, love of learning, and compassion. She was an amazing librarian and friend.
