Dear Osprey Families,

We continue to closely monitor and follow recommendations regarding public safety practices surrounding the spread of Coronavirus and remain committed to keeping our school community safe and well-informed.

As we gear up for our spring break, we are asking our families to please review the newly published Travel Fact Sheet from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). Please plan to take extra precautions when you return from spring break. If you travel to any high risk areas and/or believe there might have been a possibility/risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus during your travel then we encourage you/your students to self-quarantine upon return to Durango for a 14-day period.  The staff at AHS is prepared to support online learning for any students who are unable to attend school due to quarantine.  Please notify Sean Woytek of your student’s risk of exposure history and intentions to self-quarantine.

We will be working with the San Juan Basin Public Health Department and following the school closure guidelines issued by Governor Polis yesterday It is not currently recommended that schools close unless they have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a staff member or student.

Moving forward, we request that all families be extra vigilant with ensuring their students stay home if they have any type of respiratory illness or are experiencing a fever, cough, or shortness of breath. We will be following the CDPHE guidelines for exclusion from school which includes recommendations to “exclude students/staff with fever or respiratory symptoms from school/work until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever (without use of fever-reducing medicine), runny nose or productive cough and other symptoms are improving. Ill students/staff should be separated from others until they can be picked up/go home.”

The San Juan Basin Public Health Department recommends the following:
  • If you believe that you’ve been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, please call your doctor to assess if you meet criteria to be tested. It is important to call ahead before going to see a doctor or emergency room to prevent the spread of illness. Tell them your symptoms and that you suspect you were exposed to someone with COVID-19 or had recent travel to a country that is experiencing community spread.
  • If you do not have a doctor, please call SJBPH at 970.247.5702. Option 1.
