Burlingame Public Library Homework Center Announces New Hours!
Monday - Wednesday, 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Located in the Tech Lab in the lower level of the Library, the Homework Center is a free, drop-in homework help program offered by the Burlingame Library where students in grades 1-6 receive assistance and mentoring from dedicated, volunteer teen mentors.

Previously called Homework Buddies, this program is a proven way to grow students' confidence in their ability to complete their schoolwork, while learning social and time-management skills.

The center is supervised by a Burlingame Parks & Recreation staff member during all open hours. Parents bringing their child for the first time will be asked to sign a permission form and a Homework Center agreement. Students may attend the center for up to 2 days per week.  Click here for more information.
City Launches "Projects Around Town Story Map"

Did you know there are currently 26 projects planned or under construction in Burlingame right now? The City of Burlingame recently released an online, geographic information system (GIS) based project tracking tool to enable residents to quickly identify and obtain project information by clicking on an interactive map.

Consistent with the City's goal to improve transparency without bogging residents down in government-speak, this tool maps Community Development, Parks and Recreation, and Public Works projects. After clicking on a specific project on the map, residents may view a project overview with a link to more detailed project information on the City's website.
Environmental Tip of the Week
Keep Styrofoam out of landfills by recycling it at GreenCitizen

Styrofoam cannot be recycled in the blue recycling bin. However, it can be recycled at GreenCitizen, which is conveniently located in Burlingame. GreenCitizen will shrink the Styrofoam and create a condensed foam that is used to make surfboards, cameras, jewelry cases, coat hangers, and ceiling molding. Learn more by visiting www.greencitizen.com. If you are unable to recycle your Styrofoam, the best way to discard it is in the black garbage bin.

The Burlingame Neighborhood Network (BNN) invites local residents to learn from local safety experts how to receive emergency alerts, connect with family and friends, tap into a volunteer Ham radio network, decide what to include in your “go bag”, and evacuate safely following disaster.

Called “Ready, Set, Go! What’s in Your Go Bag? When and Where to Go,” the program will feature representatives from BNN, the Central County Fire Department, the Burlingame Police Department, Burlingame’s Ham Radio Network, and the California Highway Patrol. These experts will offer tips and answer questions. Admission is free, and complimentary coffee and refreshments will be served.

Founded in 2006, the Burlingame Neighborhood Network encourages neighbors to connect with one another to build a sense of community, become informed about disaster preparedness and support one another during emergencies.
