The Racial Justice Book Group which, for the time being, is meeting monthly via Zoom, started with two books as the basis for their discussions: Kendi’s How to be An Antiracist and McGhee’s The Sum of Us.
They then read One Goal by Amy Bass, a book about the Somali community in Lewiston, and are now working their way through the book version of The 1619 Project.
In addition to the
books listed on the web site, those previously recommended by the Racial Justice Task Force, the group has a few others to recommend.
Begin Again by Eddie S. Glaude Jr.
How to Make a Slave by Jerald Walker
A knock at Midnight by Brittany K. Barnett
The Tradition by Jericho Brown
How the Word is Passed by Clint Smith
Call Me American by Abdi Iftin
My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem
The group meets by Zoom on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 10:30 in the morning and is always open to new members.
