Spring Semester Classes Start Monday

Students have truly shown their resilient Cyclone spirit this year and embody what it means to be an Iowa Stater. We’re excited for all of the possibilities and opportunities a new semester will bring for your student! We hope you were able to enjoy time with them over break and want you to know our team is here to help them in any way possible to make this semester a great experience.

If your student is not yet back to campus and you're planning to come with them this weekend, make sure to follow our Cyclones Care behaviors. Wear a mask while on campus, follow proper physical distancing, and please stay home if you are not feeling well.

Virtual Sessions Jan. 27

Starting next week, your student can choose any hall, suite or on-campus apartment to live in next year.

We're hosting two virtual sessions on Wednesday, Jan. 27, where you'll get an overview of campus options, the selection process and have the ability to ask questions.

Regardless of where a student lives now - on campus, off campus or at home - ANY ISU student can choose a space on campus for next year.

MAPLE HALL

An Apartment Without Being An Apartment

Recently renovated, Maple Hall has new flooring, lighting, vanities (there's a sink in each room!) and a fully-renovated kitchenette on each floor. Your student can go in to the kitchen and whip up a special treat - all the pots and pans are provided.

Bathrooms are a pod-style and that means the toilet, sink and shower are in one room - a pod. The pods go down the middle of the hallway.

Seasons Marketplace and East Side Market are amazing ISU Dining locations in the Maple-Willow-Larch Commons.

Location, great amenities and support staff on call 24/7 truly makes Maple Hall a great place to call home and one your student may want to consider for next year.

Staff Spotlight:

Askley Kockler

Meet Ashley Kockler – a wannabe FBI agent turned Residence Hall Director. Ashley is in her third year at Maple Hall. “I love interacting with the students," she said. “There’s nothing quite like seeing the light bulb moment when they recognize they are independent and can make their own decisions. Seeing the growth and maturity over nine months is phenomenal.”

Menu Options Galore!

Our dining centers offer plenty of menu options to satisfy your student's appetite. With five dining centers, four fast causal options and several cafes, your students can choose from at least 15 different main dish options, a full salad bar, a variety of side dishes, fruit and homemade desserts!

Our mitigation strategies are still in place, so they can dine with friends (following proper procedures) or take their meals to go!

A Job That Works Around Your Student's Schedule

If your student is looking for some extra spending money this semester, we have an opportunity for them! We are looking to fill openings in most of our dining locations. Starting pay is $11-$12 an hour and we'll work around their class schedule. This is a great chance to build references for a resume. They can start the application process here!

Excellent Effort!

We are happy to announce that our department received two Exceptional Effort Awards for work done during the COVID-19 Pandemic. There were 12 categories designed to “celebrate individuals and teams who have gone above and beyond to educate and inform during the pandemic.” The University received over 600 nominations. Recognized for their outstanding efforts were:

Exemplary Student Support - Virginia Speight, Director of Residence Life director, received the Exemplary Student Support award for managing the logistics for students needing quarantine and, in isolation spaces, comforting nervous students and responding to anxious parents.
Exemplary Operational Support - ISU Dining received the Exemplary Operational Support award for responsiveness and flexibility in refocusing services to provide meals to campus, to students in isolation and to those in need in the campus and Ames communities.
