Episcopal Charities Sunday

Episcopal Charities Sunday was celebrated across the diocese, with most parishes observing on Mother's Day, May 12.  With 95 parishes committing to participate, it will take a while to total our results. The donations have already begun to arrive with gifts coming in from:  Christ's Church, Rye; Grace Church, Nyack; St. John's Church, Larchmont; St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Amenia Union; St. Luke's Church, Somers; St. Mark's Church, Mount Kisco; and St. Mary's Church, Mohegan Lake.

This year's appeal included more options to give electronically, and we saw an increase in people choosing these options to show their support.  The donations will fund the 46 feeding programs that are currently being supported in our portfolio of programs.  If you would still like to support this effort click  here.  Thank you for your generosity!

Save the Date

With the improving weather everyone is thinking about summer vacations to come.  But the staff at Episcopal Charities is already thinking ahead to our 2019 Tribute Dinner.  We are not quite ready to reveal our honorees, but we do have a confirmed date.   We hope you will be joining us for this special event, which is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, 2019, and will be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.  More details will be coming soon; stay tuned!

Volunteers at Crossroads Community Cares
Second Annual Diocese-Wide Day of Service
Saturday, May 18th, Episcopal Charities held its Second Annual Diocesan-Wide Day of Service and it was a SUCCESS! 147 total participants volunteered at 15 community outreach programs throughout the diocese, this includes participation from Manhattan parish groups from St. Luke in the Field's; Trinity Wall Street; St. Mary's Harlem; St. Thomas Fifth Avenue; Cathedral of St. John the Divine; All Saints; and Grace Church.   Other parish groups included: St. James' Fordham, Bronx; St. Ann's, Bronx; Christ Church, Bronxville; Church of the Atonement, Bronx; Christ's Church, Rye; St. Andrew's, South Fallsburg; St. John's, Monticello; St. Mary's, Staten Island; Christ Church, New Brighton.

Volunteers worked stocking food pantries, planting children's gardens, serving meals to hungry New Yorkers, sorting clothes for community thrift stores, painting youth art spaces, and greeting homeless LGBTQ youth at a drop-in center. The impact of these service projects was felt across the diocese from the West Village in Manhattan to Sullivan County in the Mid-Hudson region.

Not only did our volunteers engage in meaningful service, they also interacted with each other making powerful connections. Danya Green, a volunteer from St. Ann's who volunteered at St. Mary's in Harlem shared her experience. Danya said, "After volunteering with my service group, I signed up to become a regular volunteer with the feeding program AND the shelter program! I used to live two blocks from the church, and I feel like I am giving back to the community that gave me so much. Not only did I feel positive when I left, but I connected with fellow Episcopalians from St. James' and All Saint's Church; I am excited to stay in contact." If you are interested in connecting with a volunteer opportunity in any region of our diocese, please contact the Episcopal Charities Volunteer Coordinator, Emily Collie-Beard at 212-932-7354 or email
