QCHI E-Newsletter
QCHI Fun Fact: Did you know our Be Healthy QC Coalition is made up of 19 different orgs, representing multiple sectors in the community? Yep!
This dressed up strawberry (who sure knows how to Eat Right!) actually has a name. "Scout" has been a longtime mascot of QCHI. You can catch more images of Scout (and her brother, Skip) in our Resource Guide,
Nourishing Nuggets
Sharing local/regional updates/resources centered on nutrition
March tends to remind us of a fresh start. Not only is it the formal opening of spring, but it's also National Nutrition Month. Who doesn't need a clean slate of ideas for better eating?

That's one reason QCHI and our Be Healthy QC Coalition have worked hard to put together a Resource Guide, chock full of local/regional programs to help us all Eat Right!

Some nutrition education and assistance highlights from the Guide include:
  • Cooking classes from our two main health systems (as well as website and video resources for prepping healthy foods)
  • Illinois and Iowa Extension services (everything from individual coaching and texting programs to food preservation and chronic disease prevention education)
  • Org/Business wellness screening, consultation, assessment, and survey info
  • Food pantry and Foodbank details
  • WIC information
  • Contact #s to determine SNAP eligibility

So, celebrate the newness of spring with a renewed commitment to healthy habits-- one meal at a time!
QC Trail of the Month
Detailing a regional trail for your next adventure

Spring can be a beautiful time on the riverfront. And this trail network runs right through Lindsay Park along the Mississippi in Davenport. You'll have access to Lindsay Park’s attractions, including playgrounds, a basketball court, an historic firehouse, a yacht club, and boat house. Lindsay Park and the trail are also adjacent to the Village of East Davenport, a quaint shopping and dining district. Trail surfaces are paved and perfect for biking, walking, or running.

Board Stories
Revealing a personal side to our Board Members and why they're committed to QCHI and the health of our community
New beginnings can mean a new, deeper understanding. That's what QCHI Board Member, Jill Weaver, discovered early on when volunteering for the Initiative.

Find out how QCHI helped her connect the dots on a prevalent mental health problem in our community.

Resource Corner
Showcasing national tips/guides to Eating Right
Spring is a great time for list making and we suggest jotting down some of your favorite foods. Maybe a "spring mix" is your go-to for greens in a salad, or how about baby artichokes, new potatoes, fresh berries, and/or mint (all spring seasonals).

Bottom line-- take it from the experts. Eating healthfully doesn't have to be complicated. Choose nutritious foods that have vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients. Choose what you enjoy!
