April is Earthquake Preparedness Month

Californians are no strangers to seismic activity. That’s why knowing what to do if an earthquake hits our community is essential—it’s not if, but when it happens.

Individuals and families can receive earthquake warnings through the California Earthquake Early Warning System in the following ways:

  • MyShake App: A Free smartphone app that provides iPhone users with audio and visual warnings in English and Spanish.
  • Android Earthquake Alerts: Android phones with updated operating systems are automatically subscribed to Android Earthquake Alerts, which uses the same technology as the MyShake App.
  • Wireless Emergency Alerts: No-cost text messages for emergency situations sent through the nationwide system providing lifesaving information for the State of California
  • By signing up for the AC Alert System, Alameda County residents can be alerted about emergencies, like earthquakes, and receive other important community information.
  • You can also access more helpful resources at ready.acgov.org.

Did you know 211 Alameda County also offers earthquake preparedness training and workshops? Please get in touch with Lars Eric Holm, our Disaster Preparedness Coordinator, at leholm@edenir.org to learn more and schedule your training today!

Mr. Clark's Housing Success Story

We are thrilled to share a success story from one of our long-term 211 callers, Mr. Clark. Mr. Clark has contacted 211 many times over the past years for help finding a variety of resources. Most recently, he needed assistance navigating housing resources and wanted to find a new, safe place to live.

211 staff was there to help Mr. Clark throughout his journey. Though he faced a few roadblocks along the way, he let our team know that he got a call from his leasing office that his wait was over, and he could sign a lease for a new apartment! He called 211 to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication and for helping him connect to where he needed to be. Welcome home, Mr. Clark!
