Intel's New CEO

It's official. Intel names long-time Asian-Silicon Valley VC investor Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO. This comes as US-China geopolitics continue to rattle VC and break down investment ties between America and China. His firm Walden Ventures in San Francisco has been a leading investor in semiconductor companies in China, including its largest chip maker SMIC.

GSR Ventures Splits Up

Once one of the leading cross-border US-China VC investors, GSR Ventures has split its Silicon Valley-Beijing team, with its newly named Informed Ventures focusing on digital health and AI in the U.S. It's a sign of how geopolitics and the battle for global tech supremacy has disrupted venture capital. GSR was under regulatory scrutiny for investing heavily in China's AI and semiconductor companies. Now the firm follows the lead of VC firms Sequoia and GGV, which separated US and China units in 2023 and rebranded. GSR must have taken a cue from GGV's renamed, independent firm Notable Capital in the U.S.
