The Shelter for Help in Emergency has an opportunity for local youth to collaborate with the Shelter’s prevention program – please share with any students you think may be interested!

The Shelter provides intervention and prevention resources to survivors of intimate partner violence and their loved ones in Charlottesville and surrounding areas.

The Shelter’s prevention program is recruiting middle and high school students in Charlottesville/Albemarle (ages 13 and up) who would be interested in making a video about consent in friendships. It is free to participate; students will learn filmmaking skills thanks to a partnership with Lighthouse Studios and can gain community service hours for school.

  • Share some Women's History Month stories.

  • Add new-to-you women hosted podcasts to your queue.
  • Watch TED Talks by women leaders.
  • Support as many women owned businesses as possible.

Global Recycling Day

March 18th

The best way to celebrate Global Recycling Day is to make recycling a habit. That means, before throwing anything in the trash, take that extra step to check if it is recyclable, reusable, or compostable instead.

World Water Day

March 22nd

Some suggestions to reduce your water use include:

  • Turning off the tap while you brush your teeth
  • Using the half flush on the toilet instead of the full when possible
  • Taking 2 minute showers
  • Making sure your dishwasher is full before turning it on
  • Being aware of leaking taps and toilets

“In the coming year, we’re hoping to raise even more funds to be able to meet an increasing number of requests for emergency needs,” said FHF co-organizer Amanda Alger. “Mental health and transportation are two key needs that come up again and again.”

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible.
