Temporary Extension of Noise Waiver for Spring Wash-down of County Garages in

Wheaton, Bethesda and Silver Spring

After hours interior power washing activities at garages in Silver Spring, Wheaton, and Bethesda. The work is being done after-hours to reduce interference from parked vehicles, minimize disruption to businesses, and to address pedestrian safety concerns.

Community invited to workshops for University Boulevard Corridor Plan

WHEATON, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is inviting the community to attend a series of workshops for the University Boulevard Corridor Plan (UBC Plan). The meetings will be held in a workshop format and will feature staff presentations on existing conditions followed by facilitated discussions on topics such as housing, land use, transportation, parks and open spaces, and neighborhood aspirations for the plan area.

The workshops comprise of two in-person meetings and two virtual meetings for two different geographic areas along the University Boulevard Corridor plan area to allow a more focused conversation on specific parts of the plan area.

Montgomery County Recreation’s summer program registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, May 15, for County residents for most programs and activities. Registration for Bone Builders, Day Trippers and Senior Outdoor Adventures in Recreation (SOAR) will begin at 9 a.m. Read more.

Free Financial Seminars Will Be Offered Virtually by Commission for Women and County Libraries

Montgomery County Public Libraries and the Montgomery County Commission for Women will be offering a series of free financial seminars in May on the ins and outs of "all things money.” The seminars, which are open to all, will be led by financial and investment advisors Jamie Lapin and Thiago Glieger and will take place via Zoom, from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights. The Women's Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor (DOL, or the Department, or we), announces the availability of approximately $5,000,000 in grant funds authorized by the Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (“WANTO”) Act of 1992, Pub. L. 102-530, 29 U.S.C. 2501 et seq.; 29 U.S.C. § 13; and the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 for the WANTO Technical Assistance Grant Program.

This program aims to provide technical assistance (TA) to employers (which may include public sector entities) and labor unions in the United States and its territories to encourage employment of women in both apprenticeable occupations and nontraditional occupations (A/NTO), specifically in the following ways:

• Developing (establishing, expanding, and/or enhancing) pre-apprenticeship, youth apprenticeship, Registered Apprenticeship (as defined in Appendix B "Acronyms and Definitions"), or other nontraditional skills training programs designed to prepare women for careers in A/NTO;

• Providing ongoing orientations or other resources for employers, unions, and workers on creating a successful environment for women in A/NTO; and/or

• Setting up support groups, facilitating networks, and/or providing supportive services (as defined in section IV.E.3) for women in A/NTO to improve their retention.
