Learning Financial Literacy
Anna* is a single mom of a 5 year old boy and 12 year old girl. The family lived in a homeless shelter when they joined the JumpStart Program 15 months ago. She was working, but homeless because of her finances and credit. After targeted work with her Social Worker to budget, clear up her credit, and increase her credit score, she finally secured her own apartment last fall.
However, her work in the program was far from done. Maintaining her housing the first year would be a challenge as she adjusted. She continues working with New Ground to make sure her family stays housed long-term. This spring, she strategized with her worker to best utilize her tax refund – paying over $7,000 to credit card debts, household and utility bills, and prepaying rent. She continues to set herself up for success while using the financial literacy tools and skills she's developed in the program.
Anna is working hard with New Ground to make sure she ends the cycle of homelessness for her family.
