When it comes to recycling, everyone has a part to play and quality matters!
The recyclables from RRRASOC member communities, regardless of the hauler that collects them, are delivered to the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Southfield, where they are sorted, separated, baled and shipped to brokers and manufacturers to be made back into new products.
For manufacturers to want and use recyclables, the material must meet certain quality standards. Unacceptable items—such as garden hoses, plastic bags, diapers, needles, propane tanks, as well as yard and food waste — lower productivity at the MRF, reduce the end-market value of recyclables and most importantly, expose our employees to unsafe material.
In other words, poor quality jeopardizes the usability of recyclables.
Be sure to RECYCLE RIGHT!
- Know what to recycle – clean paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, glass food and beverage bottles and jars, metal food and beverage cans, foil, trays, etc. Check our Recycling Guidelines at rrrasoc.org
- Keep containers EMPTY, CLEAN & DRY and free of food and liquids.
- Keep it LOOSE. Do not bag or bundle recyclables.
