Home For A Nation
Breaking Ground at the Frances Perkins Homestead
Reflecting on Frances Perkins’ commitment to the principle that “government should provide all its people with the best possible life,” the Frances Perkins Homestead, a fifty-seven-acre National Historic Landmark, a saltwater farm in the nation’s northeast corner, is a tangible reminder that America is intended to be a vast homestead for all its people, a lively household for one and all, and that concern for the common good should govern our life together. Following preservation activity for safe access, we look forward to welcoming Homestead visitors. Watch for Homestead opening announcements later in 2022!

Frances Perkins Place
NYC Street Naming Honors Frances Perkins
On a Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2022, the legacy of the woman known as “the Mother of Social Security” was honored as W 46th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues was renamed “Frances Perkins Place.” NYC Mayor Eric Adams remarked, “I think we need to draw on Ms. Perkins — she saw the devastation of the [Triangle Shirtwaist] fire, and she could have said ‘woe is me’, but instead — she said, ‘why not me’. And what she did with her life, turning that painful moment into a purposeful moment, we all benefited from it — she changed the landscape of employment, of safe spaces for employees. Let’s acknowledge the role she played on humankind in New York City.”
