Art with a Heart in Healthcare provides personalized fine art experiences that enhance the healing process for patients and their families.

Updates

Thank you to The Respond Adapt Recover Fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida for supporting our virtual art program, "Let's Make Art". Thanks to their generosity, Art with a Heart in Healthcare (AWAHIH) has been able to purchase new tech equipment and provide tech support that will allow us to produce high-quality virtual art sessions for patients and the public.

AWAHIH will continue releasing recorded art sessions weekly as well as live art sessions filmed in Wolfson Children's Hospital media center monthly. The media center sessions stream to patients' hospital rooms where they can follow along using supplies provided by AWHAIH. A special shout out to Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Matt Richards for taking over as technical support, operating all of our new equipment, and rendering our video content.

Fundraisers and Donations

AWAHIH would like to extend a huge thank you Kerri Carter (Catie Cares), students of Episcopal Day School St. Marks campus, Luke Preza (Douglas Anderson School of the Arts student), and Ananya Inchal and Dorian Vlasov, (Nease High School IB program students) for their donations of art supplies. The materials they collected for AWAHIH fill our Art To-Go bags so that we can continue providing art supplies for hospitalized patients.

We also would like to thank Kendra Scott jewelry for hosting a fundraising day on March 12th in which 20% of sales were donated to AWAHIH!

Special Projects

Natalie was a patient at WCH who had to wear a medical helmet as a part of her treatment. She was not too thrilled about wearing her helmet until she learned that AWAHIH Artist-in-Residence Brooke could custom paint it for her. Natalie's eyes lit up as she instantly knew exactly what she wanted, a unicorn! Now she is excited to wear her beautiful, personalized helmet. We are grateful AWAHIH was able to help enhance her healing process!

Ongoing Partnerships

AWAHIH is proud to continue a partnership with Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville providing visual art and music sessions for adult Behavioral Health patients. Preston Watson, MMT, MT-BC Activity Specialist/Music Therapist, who coordinates with our AIR, has noticed the positive impact that the handpan sessions has had on patients:

"Patients respond well to the soothing music of the handpans. This ambience allows the patients to relax and fosters creative self-expression. The artists with Art with a Heart in Healthcare provide positive support, guidance, and encouragement to patients attempting to express themselves through visual art no matter the artistic level of the patient. Community Outreach

Ten AWAHIH team members created art that will be displayed in the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville's (MOCA Jax) upcoming exhibition, Imagination Squared. For this exciting show, MOCA invited the community to participate in a creative response to our times and as a celebration of Project Atrium's 10- year Anniversary. The exhibition will be on display APRIL 16, 2021 - AUGUST 8, 2021. It can be viewed virtually on their website or in person by scheduling a private tour.
