The air is a little warmer, the snow is gone and flowers are beginning to bloom.  It's spring at Seneca!  We encourage everyone to attend our next meeting and get involved this spring with your alma mater!  The next meeting is on Tuesday, April 7, at 6:00pm in the school media center.
Make Spring Play Plans NOW!

Don't miss the Seneca Spring Play - To Kill a Mockingbird. The Drama Department is hard at work honing the production. Shows will be May 13-16 in the Stickler Theatre. Look for more details to come as the date approaches.
All Class Reunion

While the details have not been ironed out, we are still tentatively planning an all-class reunion at Chubby Ray's in J-town for Friday, May 15. Stay tuned for the latest information.

Redhawk Rangers in Action

The Redhawk Rangers - Seneca's community service group - were busy in early March stuffing backpacks for homeless students in the district and feeding folks at The Lord's Kitchen. They completed their canned food drive and prepared over 200 backpacks.  All had a great time serving as can be seen in the photos on our website.

Spring Track Team Assistance

We would like to gauge interest among alumni for a much-needed service. Many of Seneca's student-athletes live far from Seneca's campus and that makes it difficult to get home from practice or to team events at other schools. Seneca Past and Present would like to be able to provide a carpooling service for athletes either from practice to home, school to events and events to home. If you are interested in helping us with this service, please email us. This would be purely a volunteer effort. Since Track is a spring sport, we would like to start with that and see how much interest is shown. Keep in mind that there are details to work out and anyone volunteering would need to fill out a JCPS volunteer form and have a thorough background check done through the Board of Education. If spring track team assistance is successful, it is possible we could expand the service to other sports in the future. What a GREAT way to give back to your school and show current students that we care!

Seneca at Lindsey Wilson College

Two alumni at Lindsey Wilson College received recognition for their activities in the classroom and on the wrestling mats. Felix Casa Del Valle '11 and Lofton Wright '10 were honored for Academic All Mid-South Conference. In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least sophomore academic status. This is the third time Felix Casa Del Valle has achieved this honor in his career and the first for Lofton Wright. Congratulations guys!

KMEA Performances

On March 12, the Redhawk Choirs took the KMEA by storm and received overall ratings of 'distinguished'. The Advanced Orchestra received a distinguished rating and the Intermediate Orchestra received a Proficient Plus. Check out the details here.

Seneca Past and Present had specific involvement in the orchestra performances. Shirl Atwell, Seneca's Conductor, says that the alumni association's willingness to pay for the replacement of strings for some of Seneca's school instruments had a direct impact on performances by improving sound quality tremendously.

Class of 1962 Sponsors Essay Contest

Again this year, the Class of 1962 is sponsoring an essay contest for the Senior Class. Winners of the contest receive a cash prize to use at the college of their choice. The contest committee, headed by Sandy Richardson, visited all Senior English classes to explain the contest to students and to encourage them to enter. The award of $500 will be given at awards recognition at the end of the school year. To see essay guidelines click on this link.

Maybe YOUR CLASS would like to do something similar to contribute to making Seneca great!

Reunion Planning Workshops

The Louisville Convention Center is offering FREE workshops to help alumni who are planning reunions. Remaining dates for 2015 are May 16, August 15 and November 14. Even if you aren't currently planning, this would be an invaluable tool when your reunion year approaches. Take a look at the flyer here.
