Letter from the President

As the cold weather begins to fade and daylight hours grow longer, spring and summer are just around the corner. The past year has been an eventful and exciting one for our community, highlighted by the expansion of The Lodge and a very successful Frolics event—even in the face of torrential rain.

The Lodge and patio expansion, along with the introduction of a new food menu, has created a wonderful gathering place where members can relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Camelot. I would like to extend a sincere thank-you to The Lodge Manager, Chris Pfeil, for her hard work and determination in hiring new staff and developing new bar operations to accommodate the increased capacity.

Another highlight of the expansion was the completion of the brick wall fundraiser. The wall is filled with creative messages and meaningful memories, and it stands as a lasting testament to the generosity of our members. Thank you to everyone who participated in the brick donation program.

The Firewise Program continues to be a successful and important initiative, helping to clean up dead trees and brush in our common areas. We are moving forward with key dates in 2026 to continue these efforts. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped last year, and I hope we will see even more participation this year as we work to reduce and prevent fire hazards in our area.

It is also important to note that the Wisconsin DNR has provided financial support for this program based on volunteer participation. These funds are used for equipment repairs, volunteer activities, and hiring third-party contractors to remove larger trees or address difficult areas using skid-steer equipment. Unfortunately, the Wisconsin DNR will be reducing funding going forward, which will limit what we can accomplish. As a result, we anticipate asking LCPOA members for donations in the future to help support the Firewise Program.

Annual LCPOA dues notices will be emailed in April. Please watch your inbox—and your spam folder—for the notice. Emailing invoices and offering online payment options has helped significantly reduce mailing and printing costs. Additionally, the access codes for the boat launch gates will be changed this spring. Members who have paid their annual dues will receive the updated code.

Finally, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our office manager, Amy Lewallen, for her outstanding work this past year. Amy has streamlined office operations, reduced expenses, improved member services, and consistently assisted members with questions and concerns. Thank you, Amy!

I look forward to seeing you at our Annual Members Meeting on Saturday, June 20th, and to another fantastic summer on the lake.

Cheers to Year Two at The Lodge!

We’re excited to welcome you to our second summer in the new Lodge on Lake Camelot! After an incredible first season in our new building, we’re ready to make this one even better.

The Lodge has quickly become a favorite gathering spot — whether you’re stopping in after a day on the lake, meeting friends for drinks, or catching the big game on one of our TVs. This summer, we’re building on that momentum with expanded services, ice-cold draft beer, and a refreshing lineup of cocktails and mocktails for everyone to enjoy.

So come and enjoy the fresh air, grab a drink, and relax with friends just steps from the water on our patio. It’s the perfect place to cool off, unwind, and soak in the lake atmosphere.

Year two is all about enhancing your experience, creating traditions, and continuing to make The Lodge the heart of our Lake Camelot community.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Firewise Program – 2026 Update

The LCPOA Firewise program continues to make a meaningful impact thanks to the support of our community and the dedication of our volunteers.

In 2025, we hosted five Firewise workdays. With the help of volunteers and C & S Skidsteer Services, we cleared brush, removed undergrowth, and took down dead trees in several areas. These efforts help reduce wildfire risk while protecting the homes, properties, and natural beauty of Lake Camelot.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and effort!

For 2026, we have the following tentative Firewise dates scheduled:

  • Friday, August 14
  • Friday, August 28
  • Friday, September 25

Please consider joining us for one of these important community workdays. Even a few hours of volunteering helps make a big difference.

More information will be shared as the dates get closer.

Thank you for helping keep Lake Camelot safe and beautiful!

Support the Firewise Program

Not everyone is able to volunteer their time, and that’s okay—there are still meaningful ways to support the Firewise program.

If you would like to help but cannot attend a workday, please consider making a donation to Firewise. Contributions help cover equipment, materials, and services needed to continue clearing brush, removing hazardous trees, and reducing wildfire risk throughout our community.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps move these important projects forward and keeps Lake Camelot safer for everyone.

BEACH CLUB CLEANUP

Beach Club Tree Removal Updates:

Last fall, we completed major cleanup efforts at several of our beach clubs with the removal of dead and hazardous trees. Due to the size and condition of these trees, Lakes Tree Service LLC was hired to ensure the work was completed safely and professionally.

Beach Clubs Completed:

  • Excalibur
  • Falk
  • Inverness
  • Leeds

These improvements greatly enhance safety and protect our shared beach club properties for all members.

While beach club dues are essential and help cover general maintenance and routine upkeep, they do not fully cover significant expenses such as large-scale tree removal. These types of projects require additional funding beyond our normal operating budget.

We have several more beach clubs that still need similar work completed, York, Round Oak, Avebury, & Bromley. And our list continues to grow.

In order to continue moving forward, we are asking members to consider making an additional donation specifically toward tree removal and major cleanup efforts.

Drop a check in the mail, in our payment box, or the link below for those who are willing and able to contribute. Every dollar goes directly toward improving and maintaining our beach clubs.

📸 Some progress photos of the completed work below.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our community.

Beach Club Etiquette –

Respecting and Protecting Our Shared Spaces

One of the many things that makes our community special is the access to our beautiful beach clubs. These shared spaces are enjoyed by many property owners and their families throughout the season. Because these areas belong to multiple members, it’s important that we all work together to keep them clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

Please remember that beach clubs are shared amenities with multiple owners, not private spaces. Being mindful of others and treating the area with respect helps ensure that everyone has a positive experience when visiting.

A few friendly reminders as we head into the busy season:

Respect the Shared Space

Beach clubs are designed for all owners within the subdivision to enjoy. Please be mindful of how much space you occupy and avoid leaving personal items behind for extended periods of time. What might seem small can quickly add up when many people are using the same space.

Help Keep the Area Clean 🌊☀️

If you bring items down for the day, please take them back with you when you leave. Dispose of trash properly and help pick up any debris you may see. A quick cleanup by each member goes a long way toward keeping our beaches looking great.

Vehicle Use

Beach club areas are not intended to be used as ATV or 4-wheeler trails or shortcuts. Vehicles should only be used when necessary to bring people or items down for the day and then removed afterward. Limiting unnecessary traffic helps protect the grounds and keeps the area safe for everyone.

Get Involved

To help maintain these spaces and keep communication flowing, we would love to see small beach club committees formed within each location. Having a few volunteers who can help coordinate cleanups, share updates, and encourage respectful use of the area can make a big difference in preserving these spaces for years to come.

Our beach clubs are a valuable amenity that everyone benefits from. With a little cooperation and consideration from each member, we can continue to enjoy these beautiful spaces together.

If you’re interested in helping with a beach club committee, please reach out to the business office. We appreciate members who are willing to step up and help support their beach club community.

Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone had a great season. Just a few updates on Fish Habitat. Working with the DNR we have obtain a permit for the Walden area to install fish sticks to provide habit for fish and other aquatic species. On January 29th we held an annual meeting with Lake Sherwood and Lake Arrowhead. Ideas were discussed in helping develop better habit. One was fish sticks which Lake Arrowhead did this winter. Tim Schumacher and I got to volunteer in helping learn how to install these structures.

Last October the DNR stocked 2000 walleye in Lake Sherwood and 4000 walleyes in Lake Camelot. We are working with The DNR on obtaining a permit to stock an additional 2000 walleye in Lake Camelot this fall.

I want to thank Chris and her staff putting on another Great Fishery in February. Good times were had by all.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

If you like libraries, you’ll love the Lester Public Library of Rome! It is a small but busy library located on Rome Center Drive (by Nekoosa/Port Edwards Bank). It is much more than a place to get books; the library offers something for everyone, and events are planned for most days of the week.

An active Friends of the Library group works with the library’s friendly staff to create programs and activities for residents in Rome and the surrounding communities. If you would like to take part in the fun and help with events, it is easy to join; just ask at the circulation desk. It is a great bargain, too, with dues at only $5.00 a year.

On Friday mornings this winter and spring from 9:30-10:30, all community members are invited to meet by the fireplace in the library for Coffee with Friends. Enjoy coffee or tea, treats and wonderful conversation. Come by yourself or bring along a friend; all are welcome!

The Friends sponsored a Tea Talk on Friday, December 5th in the Community Room at the Library. We hosted a local author, Kerry Ames, who gave a very interesting talk on his historical fiction novel We Three. Light refreshments were served, and guests were treated to a belly dancing performance reminiscent of what might have been seen during the time period in which Kerry Ames’s book was set.

On Tuesday, February 17, the Friends sponsored a Fat Tuesday Chocolate Celebration that was open to the public. This free event celebrated everything chocolate and other Fat Tuesday concoctions, along with fun and games.

The Friends continue to work on building a storybook garden area behind the library called Jeanne’s Tale Trail. The trail’s focus is to expose children to examples of classic children’s literature as they explore the trails that wind through the natural, wooded area behind the library. Stay tuned as we discuss further plans for the trail, and in the meantime, bring your children and grandchildren to explore the trail once it reopens in May.

The next Friends of the Library meeting is Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. in the library’s community room. Please join us as we begin making plans for the rest of the year.

The mission of a Friends Group is to support the library and to spread the word about how valuable it is to our community. We are fortunate to have this wonderful library in our town.

Spring Thaw: Keep Algae Causing Nutrients from Running Into the Lakes!

Time to thaw out from a very cold Winter! As Spring rolls around, our ground may still be somewhat frozen but Winter runoff is in progress. Be very careful what you add to that runoff since it will head directly into our lakes.

That means you need to be very thoughtful about what you put on your property during this time. By now, you already know there is more than enough of the fertilizer you need in the grass alone to sprout any grass on your property. No need to add any additional either through a service or by your own sweat! Each time you cut the grass, you fertilize it with the grass clippings.

14 Mile Watershed and our partners are working to have an impact on all sources of this additional nitrogen and phosphorus, both around the lakes, upstream and throughout the entire 14 Mile Watershed stretching back to Plainfield. You can help by doing your part to reduce or eliminate those additional sources of fertilizer you can control. As residents of the Town of Rome, we all thank you! 14MileWatershed.org

Tri-Lakes Winter – Spring Update

EOR has presented all of the data collected from last year's testing areas to the WI DNR.

We have had 2 presentations by EOR concerning the addition of oxygen to the water and its effects on phytoplankton and zooplankton and the second presentation on dissolved oxygen. Our next presentation will be the measurement of sediment removal around the 10 Neo units and the large 2,400 gph unit.

The results were as expected with no negative impacts on the 2 aquatic organism. The dissolved oxygen indicated that the areas around the units were less variable oxygen ranges. We do have quite a few positive anecdotal comments about the improved water clarity and removal of sediment, but we will wait for the studies for confirmation.

EOR is currently in the process of obtaining the DNR permits for this season, and we are looking for a startup date of May 15 for the container and the 10 units.

We are also working on getting additional NEO units placed and permitted but will have to wait for DNR approval. We do have quite a few approximate locations picked as I went around Camelot and Arrowhead last fall looking for acceptable sites. Last year was an interesting learning experience and we are developing a short questionnaire for future locations to ensure available locations provide ease of installation.

The Tri-Lakes board has also committed to replacing the barley bags with biochar as preliminary tests indicate the removal of phosphates and nitrates. We are looking to work with 14 Mile Alliance and some other groups to place an order and get a volume price. We are still working with the experts as to the best placements for these bags as their costs are substantially higher than the barley bags, but they can last up to 3 years. There was a 2025 Penn Extension study that promotes the use of barley bags, but the number of bags required, proper location and the fact it inhibits algae growth rather than reducing the nutrients are reasons for the switch. We also want to ensure there is no issues with the biochar and nanobubble units. We do want uncompromised data in all cases. We will have additional information soon.

Enjoy your spring and have an enjoyable 2026!
