2018 Annual Huddle Showdown

2018 Huddle Showdown Winners
Midview High School

This year marked the 8th year that this event has been held.
There were 6 schools represented with around 140 student athletes participating on Sunday, March 4th at Cuyahoga Heights High School. The gym was filled with a lot of energy and friendly competition. Midview High School took the Championship for the first time
in the 8 years that they have attended.

Congratulations Midview!!!

Marques Evans, ending his talk with a group huddle!

Marques Evans, Pastor of Revolution 216, brought a powerful message that had everyone in the house at full attention. His message was followed by Darrell Myers, the FCA Lorain County Director, giving an invitation for anyone to make the decision to accept and follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

There were 25 decisions made this year!!!

The day ended with all 140 student athletes joined hand in hand led by Darrell Myers to close in prayer. We look forward to doing this all again next year.

Metro Cleveland FCA Director, Steve Sanders, Interviews CAVS Player Rodney Hood

The CAVS invited Steve Sanders to interview Rodney Hood after the game on Friday, March 23, 2018. In front of an audience of about 400 Upward Bound kids and parents, I asked him questions about his faith, character and overcoming adversity.

The main take away was that he shared with everyone that he wanted to quit basketball last year. He suffered from anxiety really bad and he told his family he was done with basketball. He allows his faith and reading scripture to calm him now before games. He also understands that his purpose is so much greater than the game of basketball.

We are happy to announce that FCA has 2 new schools
that have an FCA presence.

Mentor High School

The Mentor High School FCA Huddle is led by Ken Skilton

who is now the football coach at Oberlin, Mike Hayes.

FCA Followed and Supported Athletes During Olympics

With the Winter Olympic flame now extinguished until 2022 in Beijing, FCA watched the exciting Games along with the rest of the world, and especially cheered on the athletes who had been featured in FCA Magazine. USA Hockey's Gigi Marvin won historic gold, bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor won silver, skier David Wise won gold and snowboarder Kelly Clark competed in an unprecedented fifth Olympic Games, just missing the podium but paving the way for the next generation of female snowboarders. Read more about these amazing athletes.

"It was at FCA-and through a mentoring and discipling relationship with another athlete-that I truly learned the difference between religion and a relationship with the Lord."

- Olympic gold medalist Gigi Marvin

President and CEO Shane Williamson told the amazing stories of FCA-associated athletes in the Winter Olympics through a commentary in The Christian Post, which reaches 15 million readers each month.
