News and Views Team Explores the Lives
of Women Veterans as They Return Home
The SCA News and Views Team videotaped their segment "Exit to the Unknown: Female Veterans Transitioning Home" in early March for ITV's news show. According to the New York Archdiocese's ITV website, " News and Views is a journalistic exploration of contemporary issues and their meaning as interpreted by elementary and high school students of the Archdiocese of New York for their peers."  Moderator Roseanne Riolo, communications teacher, said the team chose the topic because the girls knew about men veterans, but felt they rarely heard about women.

While researching their topic, the team worked with a journalist, movie director, and staff sergeant. A documentary, "Journey to Normal," will be released this summer, which also focuses on the topic of women veterans.  Victoria Costa '17 said, "Feminism needs to exist inside and outside the military."

This year, the SCA team has also been invited to visit the Bronx VA Hospital on March 31.   View more pix of the day of taping.

Are you an alumna who served? We would like to have your thoughts about being a female veteran. Please enter your comments here.
