Tent-like Accessory Buildings

With the weather changing, Spring Lake Township would like to remind residents that soft-sided, tent-like accessory structures are not allowed. Section 306L of the Zoning Ordinance states:

Residential Accessory Buildings shall be constructed with durable, hard-sided materials, such as wood, metal, or pre-manufactured siding, that are weather and rust resistant. Residential Accessory Buildings shall be regularly maintained so that they reasonably retain their original appearance and are free from mechanical or structural defects. Residential Accessory Buildings which consist of construction materials such as a plastic tarp or other type of flexible fabric or similar material, stretched over a frame of poles or similar objects or devices, are prohibited.

Also, for all allowed accessory buildings, a zoning permit is required even if a building permit is not required. See our website for more information and for permit application forms.

The Wireless Emergency Alerts portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones. The test message will read "THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."

The purpose of the test is to ensure that the systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level.
