Allowable Accessory Buildings
Residential accessory buildings shall be constructed with durable, hard-sided materials, such as wood, metal, or pre-manufactured siding, that are weather and rust resistant. Residential accessory buildings which consist of construction materials such as a plastic tarp or other type of flexible fabric or similar material, stretched over a frame of poles, have been prohibited in the Township since 2012.

There are also limits on the size of an accessory building, based on the size of your lot. See Section 306 of the Zoning Ordinance for more information.

If you are planning to build an accessory building, a zoning permit is necessary. A building permit is only necessary for accessory buildings larger than 200 square feet.

COVID 19 Financial Concerns - Neighborhood Housing Services can help

2020 was a difficult year in many ways for everyone. The CARES Act, enacted to respond to complications from COVID 19, has measures to alleviate financial concerns for those with a pandemic-related income loss, including mortgage forbearances. These forbearances were easy to access and are a relief from mortgage payments for a length of time. At the end of the forbearance all missed payments are due. Without a successful exit plan homeowners could be facing foreclosure. NHS can help create an exit plan and answer questions. Please call for a free, one on one appointment with a housing counselor at 616-935-3270 or register for a 30 minute COVID 19 financial workshop.

Neighborhood Housing Service also offers Homebuyer Education classes. The two-part class will help you understand the home-buying process from pre-qualification to closing.
