Construction Update
Construction is continuing on the sewer force main project. The pipe has been installed under the river and the connection to the Beechtree Street force main has been completed. Work is continuing to install a force main from the Spring Lake lift station along Exchange Street. This project is scheduled to be completed by July 1. The Township Engineer is maintaining an update page on this project.
While the force main project is ongoing, the Village of Spring Lake has a separate project rebuilding Exchange Street from Elm Street to Cutler Street. Exchange Street is currently closed to through traffic. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. The Epicurean Village project is also beginning soon. This private project will replace buildings between Buchanan and Jackson with a new complex. Underground infrastructure will need to be installed in the alley behind the buildings, and the alley between Buchanan and Jackson is expected to be closed for the duration of the project. Contact Lori (lori@springlakevillage.org) to be added to the list to receive emailed updates about the construction in the Village.

Traffic continues to back up during the morning and afternoon peak times. Law enforcement continues to monitor the traffic and at times will manually operate the stop lights to assist traffic flow. MDOT has extended the green light cycle at the Jackson and Lake intersections to help with the backup. Please be patient as our infrastructure is upgraded.
Michigan's Safe Passing Law
Remember! Michigan law requires a motorist attempting to overtake a bicyclist to leave at least three feet of distance to the right of the bicyclist until they have safely cleared the bicyclist. If it is impracticable to allow the three feet, the motorist shall pass the bicycle at a safe distance at a safe speed.
