Winter can be a tough time for lawns, and following a typical wet winter, moss is everywhere. We fight this every year. Although it is difficult to prevent, it is, luckily, easy to control. Liquid iron, sprayed on a lawn, quickly and effectively controls moss. It will actually kill it in hours, turning it black. Although it is easy to kill, it will regrow every year, requiring annual treatment. We have even been recommending treating for moss twice yearly, early winter and mid-spring, which has provided better year-round control. Moss treatment is normally considered an enhanced service, but is relatively inexpensive.
We will be treating for moss during April and early May, and you will see your lawn darken and parts even turn black as the moss dies. Don't be alarmed, this is normal and does not harm the lawn. It actually helps darken the lawn color while killing the moss.
