In This Issue
It is finally spring and we are enjoying everything Mother Nature has to offer. With spring comes renewal and revitalization, and there is lots of that happening at the clinic! Read on and enjoy.

What's happening?

This winter Dr. Arla has partnered with All Things Tea to offer some very interesting and valuable talks about natural health. Topics have included weight loss, stress management and the last talk on Insomnia will be taking place on Wednesday June 5 at 5:30 at All Things Tea

The Walking Club is back! Dr. Arla and Darcy are very excited to work together with those who join, in having some healthy and active social time and reaching some weight loss goals if that is your personal choice.

When: Thursday Evenings from 7:15PM till 8PM

Dates: May 16th until June 27th, 2013

Where: Starting at the Belmont Natural Health Centre (for an optional weigh-in) and walking for a total of 3 km on the Iron Horse Trail.

On Thursday May 9th Dr. Tom will be participating in Real Men Read week at his children's school. He'll be reading to a variety of age groups and sharing his love of children's books and literature.

On Friday May 10th, the Belmont team will once again be answering phones for the KidsAbility Radiothon. We are excited to be working for such an important local organization.
CranioSacral Therapy

I am so excited to announce that I will be taking my first Craniosacral Therapy course this May! During this course, I will learn what is known as the "10-step protocol", which involves honing my palpation skills to a level where I can properly assess the flow of the craniosacral rhythm (the pulse of cerebrospinal fluid throughout the nervous system).

Craniosacral therapy is helpful for many conditions including TMJ syndrome, headaches, head and neck pain, and central nervous system disorders in addition to being extremely relaxing!

With this knowledge, I will be able to assess dysfunction and release subsequent restrictions within the craniosacral system, ultimately providing my clients with a more effective and longer-lasting treatment!  I look forward to adding crasniosacral therapy to your massage sessions as of this June!

Take care and Happy Spring,

Liver Health and Detoxification

The liver is one of the main organs responsible for detoxification in the body. Although the liver has an amazing detoxifying capacity, it can sometimes be challenged by a large toxic load. There are many lifestyle factors that can contribute to a high toxic load including the consumption of a highly refined diet, drugs, and alcohol.

As the liver function declines or becomes "sluggish", one can experience any of the following symptoms:

Fatigue

Skin problems

Excess weight

Bloating

Constipation

Diarrhea

Menstrual/hormonal problems

Fibroids

Endometriosis

Infertility

Abdominal Pain

Easy bruising

Persistent itching

Sallow/yellow skin complexion

You may start to better support your liver by reducing or eliminating any factors

contributing to your toxic load. In addition, here are some gentle detoxification ideas that can be safely performed at home.

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon in cup of warm water - Consume this drink upon waking each morning.
  • Brassica vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, kale, bok choy, brussel sprouts, mustard greens
  • Dandelion root - Can be eaten in stir-fries or salads or you can enjoy dandelion tea instead
  • Turmeric - Add to curries, soups, stews or you can take it in capsule form for a more potent effect
  • Milk Thistle - Important herb for helping the liver regenerate its healing powers
  • Increase the consumption of garlic, onions, leeks, challots, beets, and carrots
  • Castor oil packs can also optimize liver function - Please use only with the instructions of your Naturopathic Doctor!
Please do not use any of the recommended items if you are allergic or sensitive to them. If you have been diagnosed with Liver disease, consult your physician or a Naturopathic Doctor for further support.
