As we look ahead to the 65th,

here are some memories of our 50th Celebration:

Trudy Encarnacao Fund

Established by Trudy's family on the occasion of her 80th birthday, this fund celebrates a well-known and beloved Wakefield educator.

Madeleine F. & Hilda E. Oliver Fund

This fund was established through the Estate and Trust of Madeleine Oliver. As longtime Wakefield residents, sisters Madeleine and Hilda leave a legacy of generosity in support of local students.

A Permanent Fund has met or exceeded the $10,000 minimum balance and provides one or more scholarship award(s) each year.

Joshua Gray Newman Fund

This fund honors Josh Newman, a member of the WMHS Class of 2000. He was a proud member of Wakefield High's 1999 Super Bowl Championship team.

Town Admin. Stephen P. Maio Fund

This fund was established in honor of Steve Maio’s retirement, recognizing his 17 years of dedicated service as Wakefield’s Town Administrator and his deep commitment to the community.

An Accumulating Fund is building toward the required $10,000 minimum. Once that amount is reached, a scholarship will be awarded each year.

Caitlin is a 2016 graduate of Wakefield Memorial High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 2020 and her Master's of Public Health in 2022, both from Syracuse University.

Caitlin says: “receiving a Spaulding scholarship award from TSF acknowledging leadership and involvement showed me that a successful academic career is about more than just coursework, and this mentality encouraged me to branch out and get involved in many different capacities on Syracuse's campus, from Relay for Life to peer career advising to Greek life to marching band -- I experienced college to the fullest thanks to TSF!”

SPOTLIGHT ON A FUND

Muriel M. & Henry B. McConville Fund

While TSF’s mission is providing scholarship aid to local students, an equally important role we play is remembering and honoring many of our townspeople and local organizations.

To remember community members, both young and old, families, local groups and businesses in a positive and active way is a significant reason for our accomplishments since 1960 and our continued growth in aiding Wakefield students.

Many TSF funds celebrate and honor the legacy of exceptional and devoted members of the Wakefield community, including the Muriel M. & Henry B. McConville Fund.

This fund was established in 2001 following the death of Henry McConville, who had a long and distinguished record of service to the town. A 1938 graduate of Wakefield High School, Mr. McConville earned a Bachelor of Science and a law degree from Boston College, followed by a Master of Laws from Northeastern University.

Attorney McConville served on numerous town committees, including as chairman of both the Wakefield School Committee and the 1987 Town Meeting Study Committee. He was also one of the longest-serving members of the Wakefield Democratic Town Committee.

Following her passing in 2011, Muriel's name was added to the fund. Mrs. McConville was a trailblazer in local government as the first woman to chair the Wakefield Finance Committee. In the 1980s, she served two terms as president of the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce and she was a former president of the Eastern Middlesex Board of Realtors. Deeply committed to the community, she also supported numerous fundraisers for the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation (now TSF). Together, she and Henry co-chaired several fundraising events, including a Boston Harbor cruise to benefit Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
