Many TSF funds celebrate and honor the legacy of exceptional and devoted members of the Wakefield community, including the Muriel M. & Henry B. McConville Fund.
This fund was established in 2001 following the death of Henry McConville, who had a long and distinguished record of service to the town. A 1938 graduate of Wakefield High School, Mr. McConville earned a Bachelor of Science and a law degree from Boston College, followed by a Master of Laws from Northeastern University.
Attorney McConville served on numerous town committees, including as chairman of both the Wakefield School Committee and the 1987 Town Meeting Study Committee. He was also one of the longest-serving members of the Wakefield Democratic Town Committee.
Following her passing in 2011, Muriel's name was added to the fund. Mrs. McConville was a trailblazer in local government as the first woman to chair the Wakefield Finance Committee. In the 1980s, she served two terms as president of the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce and she was a former president of the Eastern Middlesex Board of Realtors. Deeply committed to the community, she also supported numerous fundraisers for the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation (now TSF). Together, she and Henry co-chaired several fundraising events, including a Boston Harbor cruise to benefit Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
