Local Ladies Making Waves in South County

In recent issues of SO Rhode Island, several articles and spotlights are shining a spotlight on some incredible women in our community, and we’re thrilled to see three familiar faces representing South County in a big way. Narragansett Chamber of Commerce’s own Executive Director, Peg Fradette, along with Louise Bishop (South County Tourism Council) and chamber member Casey Montanari (The Bike Stop Café), were all featured over the last few months, highlighting their impact and leadership in our region.

With Peg and Louise gracing the cover in January and Casey’s write-up this month showcasing her dedication to community and sustainability, this recognition is a testament to the passion and hard work that keeps South County thriving.

Peg Fradette’s inspiring recognition in Who to Watch 2025 for her work in women’s healthcare was featured among Rhode Island change makers. You can read her inspiring article here.

Louise, who was also recently named a Who to Watch in 2025 honoree, continues to elevate South County as a premier tourism destination. Her leadership and vision were highlighted in Hey Rhody Media.

Our member Casey, who is owner of local favorite Bike Stop Cafe was feature here. The article celebrates her commitment to sustainability and community through her beloved business.

As the Chamber continues celebrating its 100th year, this recognition couldn’t come at a better time. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the impact of local leadership and the exciting momentum leading up to our Centennial Gala. Stay tuned for more details on how we’ll be celebrating this milestone and recognizing the many businesses and individuals who make South County so special.

Be sure to grab a copy of SO Rhode Island to see the full features, and join us in congratulating these powerhouse women on their well-deserved recognition!

Successful Summer Job Fair Connects Students with Local Businesses

The Narragansett Chamber of Commerce was proud to support Narragansett High School senior Alexa Poirier in organizing a successful Summer Job Fair as part of her senior project. This event brought together local businesses and high school students, fostering valuable connections and creating employment opportunities within our community.

With 66 students signing up and 16 businesses in attendance, the fair was a testament to the strong collaboration between Narragansett’s schools, businesses, and community organizations. Local employers had the chance to meet enthusiastic students eager to gain work experience, while students explored summer job opportunities that could lead to long-term career growth.

The Chamber is grateful to the businesses that participated and to Alexa for her dedication in coordinating this initiative and we look forward to continuing to support programs that strengthen our local workforce and provide meaningful experiences for the next generation!

GFWC Women’s Club Brings Color to CANE Child Development Center

The GFWC Women’s Club of South County has been a proud supporter of CANE Child Development Center since the 1960s, providing grants, volunteers, and handmade blankets. Most recently, club member Maria Householder and her daughter Sydney led a mural project that transformed the center’s hallways with vibrant, welcoming artwork.

Beyond the murals, Maria and other volunteers have also renovated the teacher’s room and are updating the flooring throughout the building. Their efforts help create a warm, inviting space for children, families, and staff.

Founded in 1962, CANE is a nonprofit child care center offering high-quality, affordable care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. This year marks its 50th anniversary as a nonprofit facility, and enrollment is open.
