CDA Receives Chula Vista Champions Medal
In February, CDA was awarded the Chula Vista Champions Medal by the Mayor of Chula Vista, Mary Casillas Salas and Chula Vista City Council Officials. CDA was recognized for its high quality child development center and support services we provide to low income families in Chula Vista.

Our External Relations Coordinator, Eileen Franco, stood alongside other nonprofits, small businesses, students, athletes, and outstanding members of the Chula Vista community who were recognized for their positive impact and work in Chula Vista. It was an absolute honor to receive this medal and celebrate with other champions who create positive change!
Community Partners Celebrate Read Across America With CDA Preschoolers
Our CDA preschoolers joined millions of children across the country to celebrate Read Across America Day on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading.

This event was a HUGE success thanks to local community leaders who spread the joy of reading to the future leaders at our three state subsidized preschools. Our children had an amazing time reading with our special guests and making arts & crafts. Check out a few photos of the event below:

Thank you to our amazing storytellers!
Join us in a nationwide celebration of healthy eating! The #CACFPweek campaign is designed to raise awareness of how the USDA’s  Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) works to combat hunger and bring healthy foods to the table for adults in daycare and children in child care homes, centers, and in afterschool programs across the country.

Did You Know...

CDA is the largest CACFP provider in California. In 2017, the CDA Nutrition program reimbursed 1,200 in-home child care providers for over 5 million healthy meals they served to 14,244 children!

But We Need Your Help...

In 2012, following the recession, the state cut funding to child care programs including the CACFP. As a result, thousands of low-income children lost access to healthy meals. We know that children who start life with nutritious diets fare better, both physically and academically, and are more likely to thrive in school and later in life. Therefore, we are requesting our California legislators to increase the reimbursement to child care settings by $0.23 for breakfast and lunch served to eligible children in the CACFP . But, we can’t do this alone. Help us spread the word!

CDA Nutrition In The News
Our San Bernardino/Riverside County Nutrition Monitor, Karen Kiernan , was featured in the latest  KPCC  news story to share her insight on the issues facing early childhood nutrition.
