5 Tips for Caring for Your Hearing Aids
You rely on your hearing aids every day to keep you connected to the world around you. And every day, those sophisticated, tiny, technological marvels are exposed to moisture, earwax, and debris that can negatively affect their sound quality or even cause them to malfunction.
Fortunately, there are several easy things you can do at home yourself to ensure your devices continue to keep you hearing your best:
- Always handle your hearing aids with care, wash your hands beforehand and store in a safe, dry place away from children and pets.
- When not in use, turn your hearing aids off and open the battery door so that any trapped moisture has a chance to dry out.
- Do not wear your devices in the shower, while swimming or while using a hairdryer or hair spray/gel, even if they’re water-resistant or waterproof.
- Avoid exposing your hearing aids to extreme heat or cold.
- Have your hearing aids professionally cleaned every 4-6 months.
Regular cleaning combined with routine maintenance provided by your hearing care professional will extend the life of your devices and reduce the chances of them malfunctioning.
