Greetings, family, friends, and supporters of The Foundation School! It's hard to believe we are heading toward the end of the 2025-2026 school year. Despite unpredictable weather, snow days, and a few calendar changes along the way, we are excited to share that our programs remain right on track for a successful and impactful year.

The past few months have been filled with excitement and connection as our students participated in memorable field trips, and engaging academic activities. These experiences have not only enriched learning but also strengthened our sense of community as we continue to grow and learn together.

Lower School News

With the support of our wonderful school librarian, Dr. Sara Phang, our annual Book Fair in December was a joyful celebration of reading! 

Thanks to our generous donors, every student chose two new books to read over the holiday break. The students were all smiles as they enjoyed their favorite characters and learned about the planets, penguins, and sports from our informational selections. Favorites, including Star Wars, Dog Man, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid, are always popular selections!

One of our most cherished and highly anticipated traditions each year is our Black History Month Living Museum, and this year’s celebration was truly unforgettable.

Families and visitors joined us for a special Black History Assembly filled with powerful poetry readings, uplifting musical performances, and, of course, our inspiring Living Museum. This unique experience gave students, parents, and staff the chance to “meet” influential figures, from trailblazing leaders and innovators to celebrated athletes and artists, who have made a lasting impact on the African American community.

Through these meaningful encounters, our students don’t just learn history; they connect with it. They see themselves reflected in these stories and are inspired to dream bigger, reach higher, and imagine all that’s possible for their own futures.

During our weekly enrichment activities, students explore their interests and discover new passions in a fun, supportive environment. From computers and sports to cosmetology and arts and crafts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and grow from!

Students and staff come together to take part in hands-on experiences that spark creativity, encourage self-expression, and inspire bold, beautiful creations. It’s a time filled with energy, imagination, and the joy of trying something new!

Excitement is building at The Foundation School as our students eagerly await the arrival of chick eggs on April 7! As part of our “Peep the Process” project, students will get a hands-on look at the life cycle as they help care for the eggs in a classroom incubator.

With a 21-day wait ahead, patience will be key, but the anticipation is all part of the fun! If all goes as planned, our fluffy new arrivals are expected to hatch right around April 28th. We can’t wait to watch this incredible process unfold together! 

High School News

Each quarter, we recognize and celebrate students who demonstrate positive school behavior with special reward trips, and they’ve been a big hit!

During the first quarter, students enjoyed an exciting day of ice skating, followed by a fun-filled trip to Main Event in quarter two. We’re excited to continue the tradition with another skating outing planned for quarter three. These off-campus experiences give students something to look forward to while honoring their consistent effort, growth, and commitment to positive behavior. The students on level enjoy a day off campus to have fun and be rewarded for weeks of positive behavior.

This year, we’re excited to share a new additions to our internship program, the launch of our school café, “The Munchbox Cafe”, which opened in February. Staff and students can place an order using the menu order form the day before. The food is cooked on Thursdays and delivered to the “customer” during the lunch hour. Through this hands-on experience, students are building valuable skills in marketing, money management, and cooking as they take on the role of café staff.

In addition, our team is beginning work on a student-run merchandise shop, where they’re learning to use a Cricut machine to design and create school apparel and souvenirs. We’re so proud of the creativity, teamwork, and dedication our students continue to show!

At the start of the second semester, we were proud to launch our class for students earning a Certificate of Attendance, affectionately known as “The Academy,” with two students beginning this exciting journey.

 In the Academy,  students are developing essential life skills and applying them in meaningful, real-world situations through classroom instruction and hands-on internship opportunities inside the building. Currently, they are working as library interns to foster communication skills with elementary and middle school staff, as well as working with the librarian, Ms. Sara, to organize books and do inventory. The Academy plans to branch out into the community through travel training and off-campus internships in the near future. 

Students have invested in their education at higher rates this year, and it’s paying off!

Through focused IEP skills drills, interventions, and rigorous instruction, students are seeing the benefits of their hard work through higher grades and honor roll recognition. Their hard work is celebrated in meaningful ways, too. Every Friday, students earn pizza for completing Xello (our transition intervention program) and IEP skills practice, and they earn TWIRL bucks to spend at the school store, adding a fun incentive to stay engaged and committed. There’s also a sense of excitement building as we prepare for our spring career and science fairs. These events give students the chance to showcase their creativity, problem-solving, and transition skills, important steps as they grow toward independence and adulthood.
