Letter from the President

As we kick off 2025, there’s been a lot happening around Lake Camelot!

The Lodge renovation and expansion are in full swing. From the outside, you’ll see that the addition is now under roof, with new siding and windows installed. As previously shared, the upgraded facility will double seating capacity, offer expansive lake views, and feature a faster, more efficient pizza oven conveyor system. But what I’m most excited about—we’ll now have a variety of beers on tap! As we get closer to completion, we’ll announce the grand reopening date and host a special event to showcase these exciting changes. In the meantime, the pavilion has been a fantastic resource, allowing Chris Pfeil, our bar manager, to host monthly meat raffles, the Lake Camelot Fisheree, and support fundraising efforts for the American Legion and other organizations.

To help fund the renovation and give you a lasting piece of Lodge history, we launched a brick donation project. This initiative allows you to purchase a personalized brick that will be installed on the exterior of the Lodge. Fewer than 500 printed bricks will be placed along the east side of the building, beneath the windows facing the lake. Each brick costs $250 and includes three lines of text with up to 14 characters per line. To order yours, visit: donationbricks.com/camelot.

In late fall, DCM Landscaping completed shoreline restoration along the north part of the Lodge property, where many residents beach their boats. Over time, increased boat traffic and natural erosion led to the loss of approximately 5 to 7 feet of shoreline. The restoration now provides easier access to the swim area, featuring new concrete steps. This spring, we’ll plant native vegetation to help secure the shoreline and enhance the natural setting. This project was made possible through generous donations from Visit Rome, DCM, Wisconsin DNR grant funds, and support from Tri-Lakes Management. Additionally, we’ve contracted with MSC to install new docks in the area for boat parking.

I’m looking forward to an amazing summer, seeing everyone at the new Lodge and out on the lake!

Warm Regards,

Don Dodd

LCPOA and Member Services

WELCOME TO OUR NEW ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER

Business office has been busy making a number of changes to become more efficient.

First, we have been verifying and updating all member email addresses and will be sending out electronic invoices for 2025 annual dues April 1st. For individuals with no e-mail on file we will mail the invoice but to ensure you receive important updates and reduce mailing costs, please provide or update your email address with us as soon as possible. Along with this you now have the convenience of paying your dues online or continue to mail payment or utilize our drop box in member services area.

This year to also help reduce costs, we are discontinuing members cards, boat launch parking stickers & gate code stickers. The new gate code will be e-mailed to members once they have paid their annual dues or obtained during office hours. The current code is valid until the new code is issued and programed which will be done early May. Once that is complete the code will be emailed to all paid members.

Additionally, we regret to inform you that due to ongoing challenges in finding staff for the Member Services area in the lower level, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue this part-time position. To continue supporting the needs of both big and little kids, we will be installing a vending machine stocked with snacks, refreshments, and a fun selection of kid-friendly games.

Ice cream will be available for purchase in the pavilion when open from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend and pizza can be ordered from the bar along with the Lodge's new upcoming menu items. Clothing will be available for purchase at the new display case located in the Lodge bar area.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to these new enhancements!

FISH HABITAT 2025

Thank you all who attended and donated prizes for the Annual Fishery on Lake Camelot on Feb. 15. Chris and her crew pulled off another great event raising money for Fish Habitat.

In the 12+ Under Pan Fish Tournament in the Crappies group the average size were between 4 to 10 inches. Perch: Average size 3-11 inches and Bluegill group: 4-6 inches.

In January the three lakes fish habitat committees all gathered for a second annual meeting with the DNR. We talked about shoreline erosion to providing habitat to the lakes. This included talks on fish sticks, fish cribs and plant base plantings in the Lake to provide habitats.

We hope to start having meetings again on Saturdays once a month. Those dates and times will be to be determined.

Thank you all for your support.

FIREWISE

The LCPOA Firewise program could not and would not exist if not for the support of our community and the volunteers.

Last year in 2024 we had 5 Firewise events. With the help from our volunteers and C & S Skidsteer Services we reduced the risk of wildfires by removing brush, undergrowth and dead trees. Thank you all once again.

In 2025 we have made some tentative dates:

Saturday, August 9th

Saturday, August 23rd

Friday, September 5th

Friday, Sept 19th

Please consider coming out and volunteering for this very important event

More information to come!

Thank you,

14 Mile Watershed Alliance Spring Newsletter Articles for the Rome Tri-Lakes Associations

Save the Date! State of Our Lakes Annual update on Lakes health and actions taken to protect our Lakes.

Spring Thaw, Water’s Moving!

Time to thaw out from a very cold Winter! This is the time of the year when the ground may still be somewhat frozen but Winter runoff is in progress. Be very careful what you add to that runoff. The lakes and most of the drainage ditches in the Watershed are generally free of ice so any movement of surface water will make its way through the 14 Mile Creek and Spring Branch Creek into our lakes. In addition, in the rainy Spring, water that doesn’t percolate through the soil/sand washes off into the nearest body of water.

That means you need to be very thoughtful about what you put on your property during this time. By now, you already know there is more than enough of the fertilizer you need in the grass alone to sprout any grass on your property. No need to add any additional either through a service or by your own sweat! Each time you cut the grass, you fertilize it with the grass clippings. If you pull water from one of the lakes to water the grass or use a well, there is plenty of nitrogen and phosphorus going on your grass (and likely running off into the lakes).

After an overwhelmingly popular vote, twice, thanks to Tri-Lakes Management last year, nano bubblers will be installed this Spring. The community has spoken telling whoever will listen they want clean water. While it’s not the only solution,

COMMUNITY QUILTERS

The Community Quilters meet at Woodland Lutheran Church on Mondays from 9 – 1. We can always use more help, so if you would like to tie, make a pattern out of squares, pin, sew quilt tops together out of 10ā€ squares, iron the many wrinkles out of fabrics, or put tops together with backs, we can use you! You do not need to know how to sew in order to help. We are looking for people interested in sewing at home, too. We enjoy working together on this project, as well as socializing with others while we work. We sent 300 quilts to Lutheran World Disaster Relief to be sent anywhere there has been a disaster, the rest stay right in our community to be used by people who need them. In 2024, we completed 506 quilts. Since November, we have finished 100 quilts. We work all morning with a half hour coffee/social break. We appreciate the support we receive in this community. The Quilters can use donations of clean sheets, mattress pads, blankets, thread, yarn and fabric. These items can be dropped off any morning M – F, when the church office is open. We invite you to come on Mondays to see what we do. Come when you can and leave when you must. Call Jeanne Osgood at 715-325-6244 or Linda Beck at 507-358-6614 for more information or if you would like to sew some quilt tops together, or tie quilts at home.

ROMEMAKERS H.C.E.

Romemakers are an active community group. With service projects, collections for needy, education seminars, and social events, we have something going on all the time. Our meetings are held at the library in the community room at 9:30 on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Come and join us! We’d love to introduce you to the many opportunities in HCE. Call Jeanne at 715-325-6244 or Linda at 715-712-1471 for more information.

Since the last newsletter, Romemakers worked with Visit Rome on the Halloween Party in the Rome Town Center on Oct. 26 from 1-3. We had over 400 kids attend and it was quite the party! There were games, a DJ, Jam’s alpaca Ranch brought alpacas and goats for petting, the balloon lady made balloons for all the kids who wanted one, costume contests, lots of opportunities for Trick or Treat, and prizes for the best Halloween decorated spot! The Rome Library won with their Butterflies in the Air display. Many folks came just to see the kids having fun! A big THANK YOU to the community members that donated candy for the event. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day.

Saturday, November 23, from 9-3 was the Annual Old-Fashioned Holiday Fair at the Rome Town Hall. There were over 35 crafters, plus a bake sale. We offered lunch from 11-2 and that seemed popular with the shoppers and crafters alike. This event was sponsored by Romemakers HCE. Proceeds from the Craft Fair go to the Bookworms Program in Adams County where children in Head Start are read to, and then get to keep the book, and to the Scholarship Program for 3 students in Adams County.

Dec. 14 was Christmas in Rome. Romemakers participated this year by providing cookies and hot cider in the Town Hall. We had a table for kids to decorate a cookie for themselves, too. 120 cookies were decorated with colored sugars, jimmies, M&Ms, chocolate chips, and colored frosting in tubes for writing squiggles. Everyone had fun doing that. There were tractor drawn hay rides in the afternoon from the Rome Town Hall. Santa was there for the children from 2:30 – 4:45. The evening events were at the gazebo in the Rome Town Center from 5 – 8 with horse drawn hay rides leaving from the gazebo area and going through the Town Center. There were marshmallows to roast, fire pits, hot chocolate, wine, beer, s’mores, and a beautiful spot to see all the decorations lit up. It was a great event for everyone, and it was all free. It was wonderful to see so many families come and have fun.

In February, Romemakers H.C.E. sponsored a Voter’s Forum in Rome.  Residents submitted questions prior to the Forum. It was very informative! Remember to vote on April 1. There will be a Bake Sale on April 1 in the Board Room at the Town Hall from 7 a.m. until we sell out. Stop in to see us there.

ROME GARDEN CLUB

The Rome Garden Club is a free resource for people interested in gardening in the Rome area. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Rome Public Library and is led by current and retired Master Gardeners. All sessions are open to the public. The purpose is to help residents with their questions about gardening in Rome and to bring in speakers to assist with that education. The Master Gardeners who care for the library gardens have planned many exciting programs for 2025. Topics range from designing hanging baskets to tackling wildlife damage to creating home-grown national parks! Look for our flyer.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

One of Rome’s many hidden gems is the Lester Public Library of Rome. It is a small but busy library located on Rome Center Drive (by Nekoosa/Port Edwards Bank). It is much more than a place to get books. The library offers something for everyone, and events are planned for most days of the week.

An active Friends of the Library group works with the library’s friendly staff to create programs and activities for residents in Rome and the surrounding communities. If you would like to take part in the fun and help with events, it is easy to join; just ask at the circulation desk. It is a great bargain, too, with dues at only $5.00 a year.

The Friends are currently sponsoring a Friday with Friends by the Fireplace every Friday from 9:15-10:30. All are welcome to drop in for a cup of coffee or tea along with delectable treats and fun conversation. It’s a great way to meet people and learn about all the activities Rome has to offer. Yoga is held on Fridays at 11:00, so come to Fridays with Friends and stay for yoga!

In February, the Friends participated in a murder mystery dinner presented by our library director, Nicole Menzel. Everyone had fun guessing who the murderer was while enjoying a potluck dinner.

On March 4, the Friends hosted its 2nd Annual Fat Tuesday Chocolate Celebration for the community. Attendees enjoyed making s’mores over the fire pit, strapping on snowshoes and hiking the trails behind the library and, of course, sampling chocolate goodies galore!

The next Friends of the Library meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 9:15 at the library. We are currently developing a children’s storybook garden area behind the library, and we will be planning a 25th Anniversary celebration for the library, along with other social and fundraising events. Watch for more information in the next newsletter. You can also follow the library’s events on its Facebook page and website.

The mission of a Friends Group is to support the library and spread the word about how fantastic it is. We are fortunate to have this library in our town.
