You can expect our quarterly newsletter to provide updates and a peak in what we’re up to!
¡Introducing a mujer poderosa!
"I think it was important for me to understand that there are people who have the same skin tone as me, speak Spanish like me, and grow up with the same stories that have been told for generations upon generations that also go through the same struggles that I have while seeking higher education for themselves."
Rosie Sanchez
Could we please start off with a quick introduction of yourself? Starting with your name, pronouns, school, and your occupation?

My name is Rosibel Sanchez but I prefer to be called Rosie. I use she/her pronouns. I am currently a full time student attending PVCC (Piedmont Virginia Community College).

How did you first come across Creciendo Juntos?

I found out about Creciendo Juntos last year from my friend/mentor Elizabeth who is the Youth Program Coordinator at Creciendo Juntos.

You also happened to be a mentee of our program Si Se Puede! What pushed you to get involved in Si Se Puede?

I’ve always enjoyed being part of Latinx programs, and once Elizabeth told me about Si Se Puede I quickly signed up hoping I would be accepted. At the time, I just started my first year of college and although the group was for High Schoolers, Karina and Elizabeth were able to adjust the program for me. What really pushed me to get involved was the fact that I am the first in my family's generation to attend college and I was clueless of what I was doing. Therefore, I thought Si Se Puede would be very educational and a great way of getting support while I began my first semester of college especially during the pandemic...

Don't miss out on our first Open Mic!
After a crazy year in 2020, Creciendo Juntos was finally able to have our Writer's Heaven Open Mic w/ José Olivarez
Our team organized an open mic event in collaboration with the José Olivarez, who's poem "Mexican Heaven" inspired our title, and the artists that submitted for our first Zine. Each artists read their work or demonstrated their pieces and go into a brief explanation behind their submission.

Each work that was published in the CHISPA zine and presented in this video are credited to the artists themselves (in no particular order): Andrea Espinosa, My'kal and Jeanremi, Arianna Mosqueda, Elizabeth Valtierra, and Dalia López-Ruiz.

Remember Si Se Puede? Check out what we have done...
But in the meantime...
Si Se Puede 2020!
Despite the hectic year that 2020 carried, we were able to successfully launch and close our Si Se Puede program. As expected, we went virtual only with the additional Kaleidoscope mentorship cohort!

We connected with 8 high school students with Latinx college mentors from UVA and PVCC.

Together we covered a lot of information over the past 4 months; from financial aid and scholarship support to searching for the right college for you. We listened to powerful speakers and talked about some of the difficult truths we experience as Latinx students. Above all, we made connections and built community with each other.
