Each quarter we create a newsletter to update the community on sustainable programs, projects, and events in the City of Long Beach. We invite you to participate and engage in these opportunities to advance environmental stewardship, support local sustainability practices, and create a more livable and resilient Long Beach!

Join us at Willow Springs Park for our 3rd annual Monarch Day of Action event on Saturday, March 16th from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm!
Help support monarch habitat by assisting in planting native plants, including narrow leaf milkweed. Enjoy fun activities and community resources provided by our amazing partner organizations!
Please remember to bring sun protection, close-toed shoes, and a reusable water bottle. A free water refill station will be available for guests to use.

Earth Month
Celebrating Earth Day all April long!

Participate in this internationally celebrated event by observing the unique local plant and animal life around you and sharing your observations with other cities across the globe using the iNaturalist app. Join us at Willow Springs Park on Saturday, April 27th to explore the trails, help identify wildlife, and take part in fun activities that celebrate our local native habitat!

Celebrate Earth Day with our California Climate Action Corps fellows by planting 40 trees in the Washington neighborhood of Long Beach! Join us at the corner of 15th and Locust on April 20th from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm to learn about the benefits of street trees and work together to plant a few yourself. Registration is required for this event as capacity is limited.

Bike Maintenance Workshop
|
Have you always wanted to learn how to take care of your bicycle? Join us for a free workshop on April 11th at Orizaba Park that will cover the basics of bike care, maintenance, and how to troubleshoot common issues that cyclists encounter.

The Clean Energy Conversation
|
We welcome residents to join a public meeting on energy conservation hosted by the Wrigley Association on April 1st with special guests from Southern California Edison (SCE) and GRID Alternatives. We will be discussing what is already being done in the City of Long Beach as well as what actions residents can take to contribute to a cleaner and healthier planet while also lowering their energy bills.

The Office of Equity and Citizens' Advisory Committee on Disability invite the community to attend the Transportation Day discussion panel and resource fair. Hear from and provide feedback to the City's transportation partners and other organizations that offer transportation options and travel training for residents with disabilities. Learn how to apply for programs like Access Paratransit and Long Beach Transit Dial-A-Lift and have your mobility device cleaned for FREE. Registration is required to attend.

Our monthly California Climate Action Corps fellow-led walks are back! Join us on Saturday, May 18th from 10:00-11:30 am at Willow Springs Park to learn about our restored 14-acre coastal sage scrub native habitat and get to know California native plants.

We invite the community to Willow Springs Park for Restoration Fridays to help tend to our beautiful restoration area. Meet us every second Friday from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Longview Point in Willow Springs Park to assist with various tasks such as watering and tending to native plants, pulling invasive species, picking up litter, mulching, and maintaining the trails.
Parking is available at 2745 Orange Ave., Long Beach, CA 90806, or you can use Long Beach Transit’s Trip Planner to plan your route to the park using public transit.
Please be mindful of park conditions and the weather; don't forget to prepare by applying sunscreen, wearing comfortable shoes, and bringing water.
Invite your friends to help us steward Willow Springs Park, volunteers will be entered in a prize giveaway!

Tree Planting & Mulch Program Updates

So far this year, the Office of Climate Action & Sustainability has planted 153 trees and made 67 mulch deliveries!

Certified Green Business Program
|
|
Certain breweries are embracing eco-friendly practices such as waste reduction, using green energy, and more efficient brewing methods. In as little as 6-8 weeks, your brewery could:
- Become a local green leader as the FIRST Certified Green Brewery in Long Beach
- Gain a reputation as an environmentally responsible brewery

The City of Long Beach was recently awarded second place in the 2023 Green Garage Awards by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). The award acknowledges environmentally friendly fleets that prioritize sustainability and lower carbon footprints throughout their operations.
