Friends – We NEED You!

Many of you know our Civil and Environmental Engineering Senior Design Lab is in need of a face-lift. With the blessing of the dean, we have begun a 3-phase fundraising campaign to modernize the lab in a new space. Goodbye A144. Hello A127. Phase 1 and 2 have already been completed, and now we need your help to get Phase 3 off the ground.

Through mass support, we feel confident that we can help raise the funds needed to help pay for the lab renovation. Throughout the year, we will be hosting various events and activities. To kick things off, we hope you will participate in our Great Give project.

CEE STUDENT & ALUMS WIN ASCE AWARDS

In celebration of Engineers Week 2018, the Florida Engineering Society (FES) Big Bend Chapter hosted the annual Engineers Week Banquet on Friday, February 23, 2016 at the Los Robles Woman's Club. This year the ASCE branch was proud to present the FAMU-FSU ASCE-FES Student Chapter with a financial gift of $750 at the E-week banquet. The chapter also jointly awarded two $500 scholarships with the FES Big Bend Chapter.

Finally, the ASCE chapter awarded its 2018 recognitions, two of which went to FAMU-FSU alumni, and one to a current student. Please continue below to learn more about the 2018 awardees.

2018 ASCE Tallahassee Branch Young Engineer of the Year Lauren Beckwith

Lauren Beckwith, EI, was awarded the 2018 Young Engineer of the Year award by the ASCE Tallahassee branch. Lauren is employed with HW Lochner where she works in FDOT roadway design and stormwater management design. She graduated with her Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the Florida State University in December 2016, after completing a Bachelor of Science in 2013.

2018 ASCE Tallahassee Branch Student Engineer of the Year Alex Chamberlain

The 2018 ASCE Tallahassee Branch Student Engineer of the Year award went to FAMU-FSU senior Alex Chamberlain. Alex has a passion for the field of civil engineering and for serving others. His infectious enthusiasm, work ethic, and positive attitude have attracted multiple students to join the FAMU-FSU ASCE student chapter. He has been a role model to many and has inspired those around him to volunteer at events in the local community.

2018 ASCE Tallahassee Branch Engineer of the Year

David Crombie

Dave Crombie, PE, was awarded the 2018 ASCE Tallahassee brand Engineer of the Year award. Dave has devoted much of his time over the past several years to volunteering at student chapter events. He has spent the past year helping student chapters across the state perform well in various activities such as Southeastern Student Conference. He is always approachable and helpful, and never hesitates to share his educational and professional expertise with those around him.

CEE Student Profile: Jaqueline Masaki

Grad student focuses on technology for Tanzania

Jaqueline Masaki is a second-year doctoral student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Her main research interests are transportation planning and demand, autonomous vehicle technologies, and traffic safety analysis. She works under the direction of Dr. Yassir AbdelRazig of the CEE Department, and Dr. Doreen Kobelo of the Division of Engineering Technology at FAMU. Ms. Masaki’s previous research includes FDOT funded projects on transit-oriented developments and vehicle classifications, under the supervision of Dr. Ren Moses of the CEE Department. Ms. Masaki is currently working on assessing the potential benefits of connected and autonomous vehicles for older drivers. This study is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation under the Center for Accessibility and Safety for an Aging Population (ASAP) at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.

Recent Department Activities

ASAP Center holds Fourth Annual Transportation Day

The Fourth Annual Transportation Day was held at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering (COE) on December 8, 2017. In spite of inclement weather, attendance included more than 80 faculty and students from the affiliated universities, along with community members and representatives from state and local agencies who work with transportation and/or aging populations.
