Long Beach Sustainability Spring Newsletter, May 2023
LB Sustainability Quarterly Newsletter
Dear Friend,

Each quarter we create a newsletter to update the community on sustainable programs, projects, and events in the City of Long Beach. We invite you to participate and engage in these opportunities to advance environmental stewardship, support local sustainability practices, and create a more livable and resilient Long Beach!
Office Expansion
The Long Beach City Council established the Office of Climate Action and Sustainability as part of the City’s Fiscal Year 2023 Budget. It is an expansion of the existing Office of Sustainability, adding new staff that is tasked with implementing the Long Beach Climate Action Plan (LB CAP) which was adopted on August 16, 2022. We look forward to updating the community about the progress of LB CAP actions and programs soon. We will continue to maintain established Sustainability programs, and with the expansion of the Office, we are excited to see those programs grow. Thank you for your continued interest and support for our team's mission as we work to make Long Beach a more sustainable and climate-resilient city!
Earth Month Celebrations
Thank you for celebrating Earth Month with us! Whether you came out to Eco Fair, City Nature Challenge, or any other event highlighted on our Earth Month Calendar, we were happy to see the community enjoy all the festivities. We hope we can help you maintain that energy throughout the year, so be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up-to-date with events!
Monarch Day of Action
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Monarch Day of Action! With your help, we were able to plant 60 Narrowleaf Milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis) and 40 Blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium bellum). These efforts allow us to better support the local Monarch Butterfly population, and we invite you to visit Willow Springs again soon to see how their habitat has grown!

Parking is available at 2745 Orange Ave., Long Beach, CA 90806, or you can use Long Beach Transit’s Trip Planner to plan your route to the park using public transit.

Please be mindful of park conditions and the weather; don't forget to prepare by applying sunscreen, wearing comfortable shoes, and bringing water.
