After hunkering down for a month or so, Brookline Tai Chi is rising again, in a new form consistent with the circumstances and our concern for everyone's safety and well-being. We will be conducting a full slate of classes online, most of them in the Zoom format that allows for a lot of interaction between teacher and students (and student to student!)

We will be offering a dozen different courses, ranging from A Taste Of Tai Chi and Tai Chi/Qigong 101 to Wu Style Form, 8 Essential Moves, and Rise Up Rooted. Check out the new schedule and course descriptions, and sign up soon!

Rooting is a mind/body/energy process that connects us to the Earth, increasing our stability, calmness, instinctual intelligence, and internal power. It is also the complementary pole to the Rising Energies of expansion, straightening, lightness, and openness: in the plant kingdom, the extending of roots into the earth enables the tree to grow upward, toward the sun. Methods to strengthen and deepen Root (Standing Qigong, Rooted Shifting and Walking, Equipment Training), will be balanced with practices to increase Rising/Expanding energies and qualities. Winter Into Spring!

This program, developed by BTC master-instructors, enables students to “enter the gate” of authentic Tai Chi and Qigong, with a complete program of basic practices (jibengong) that are the foundation for all other Tai Chi and Qigong work. The program will introduce the fundamental principles of Rooting, Releasing, Pulsing, Alignment, and Flow. We will include an emphasis on breathing to strengthen our lung capacity and overall resilience.

Fear weakens your energetic field, taxes your internal organs, compromises your immune system, puts you into a cortisol-induced catabolic state, and messes with your psychological well-being.

When everything goes wrong, what a joy to test your soul and see if it has endurance and courage! An invisible and all-powerful enemy...seems to rush upon us to destroy us; but we are not destroyed.
                                                   --Nikos Kazantzakis,  Zorba the Greek

When positive or joyous feelings and attitudes pass through each organ and circulate throughout our whole system, our physical and chemical energies are transformed and balanced.

Do not rely on their not coming.  Rely on what we await them with.
