Sunflower Hill Gardens
Our farmer, Lina Valenzuela is back from maternity leave and working again in the garden. It's so nice to have her back on the team!

Sunflower Hill Gardens is continuing our summer Career Enhancement Internship program. This program is for a neuro-typical college student during their summer break from college. It is targeted towards individuals who are studying a major leading towards a career in which they will likely be working with the DD (Developmentally Disabled) population. In addition to learning about horticulture, this CEI volunteer opportunity will provide experience working with DD individuals, creating DD garden curriculum, learning how a garden environment is rich in development opportunity, and learning how to operate a large Special Needs garden and garden programs.

Our CEI volunteer intern is San Jose native, Rebecca Giovannini. She is a sophomore, majoring  in Kinesiology at California Baptist University in Riverside, CA. She has just completed her second week working in the garden and will be with us through mid-August. We are thrilled to have Rebecca join our team!

We had another great turn out for the Sunflower Hill Gardens 'Spring Planting' Family Workday! Thank you to all who came out to help us.

Trek for Autism

Thank you to our friends,  Dan Foster  and  Laura Murphy Foster  and their daughter Madeline. Dan and Madeline are going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa this June and they are raising money for  Sunflower Hill  and  Autism Speaks  with their climb! What an undertaking! We are so thrilled and honored to be part of this amazing adventure. You can read more about their endeavor here. Thank you, Dan and Maddy!

Here are pictures of Dan and Maddy on one of their many training hikes.
Raising the Barre

Big thanks to Raising the Barre, ConDanza and the Tiffany's Dance Academy Professional Company for their Dance for a Difference benefit that was held on April 15. Last week Sunflower Hill was presented with a check for $1,000!

Pictured here are Tiffany Henderson and Robbie Teruya from Tiffany's Dance Academy with Edie Nehls, SFH Executive Director and Tanya Ludden, SFH Board Member. The event was sensational and we are so grateful for their support!
Creative Fundraising
Last month, Board Member Janeen Rubino Brumm held a fundraiser on Facebook for her birthday. It ran the entire month of April and she raised over $1,000! Online fundraising, or "crowdfunding," is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to raise money for a cause by receiving small donations from a large number of people. If you want to learn more about how to do a Facebook fundraiser for Sunflower Hill, please contact Janeen at
