Spring rehearsals are underway!
The six choirs of the Boulder Chorale are all underway for the second semester. Our four children's choirs have grown and we are very excited to have all the new members join our BCC family! The Chamber Chorale and Concert Chorale started up last week with singers enthusiastic about their spring performances.

This Month in Music
This month in music, we’re recognizing the hard work of many middle and high school musicians across our state. Students prepared and auditioned for their respective All State ensembles in the fall, where they were required to demonstrate their musicianship through a solo performance, aural skills, and sight reading exercises. Many received the news this winter that they were selected to perform with the ensemble. Those students have been working hard over the past two months to learn and memorize 5-6 songs from across a wide variety of choral genres. This month, the students are able to come together as one to have a life-changing experience with some of the other best singers in the state.

High school students had the opportunity to learn under several distinguished conductors, and performed at the Buell Theater on January 22nd. Several Boulder Children’s Chorale Alumni were in attendance, including Katie Hartrick and Allison Renken (pictured below), who performed in the Treble Choir! You can watch one of their songs here, “Malala” by Joan Syxmko. The composer writes:

"I’d been following the story of Malala Yousafzai for some time when I heard her address to the UN general assembly in Fall of 2013. I decided at that moment to compose an ode to her for Aurora Chorus' inaugural International Women’s Day concert, entitled: The Rising of the Women Is the Rising of Us All. Inspired by her courage and mission, I've created a work that is strong, direct and with a powerful feminine fluidity— like Malala herself.”

In a few short weeks, Colorado Middle School All State Choir will take place at the Denver Convention Center, with a final performance at Bellco Theater on Friday, March 11th. We have current members of the Boulder Children’s Chorale participating in this event, and former Artistic Director Kate Klotz will be directing Triplo Choir, along with two other distinguished clinicians. We encourage you to go listen - each year the performances are nothing short of astounding. You won’t believe that the students on stage are only in 7th and 8th grade!

Congratulations to all of the hard-working middle and high school All State Choir students - your hard work and dedication to your craft is admirable!
You're invited!
We invite you to attend an intimate community concert featuring two phenomenal musicians and friends of the Boulder Chorale—Julianne Davis, soprano and Susan Olenwine, piano. The two of them have prepared selections which celebrate American composers. Susan Olenwine is well recognized as the pianist for both the Boulder Chamber Chorale and the Boulder Concert Chorale. Her performance experience is expansive and her full bio can be read here. Julianne Davis has also performed with the Boulder Chorale on numerous occasions. She sang in collaboration with the Boulder Symphony in Dvorak's Stabat Mater and was the featured soloist with the Boulder Concert Chorale in "Rhythm Planet." Juliann's full bio can be read here. They are generously inviting all music lovers to attend this special benefit at no charge. All donations received at the concert will directly benefit the Boulder Chorale organization.
