This exhibition opens this Wednesday, January 25 at the Christian Petersen Art Museum at Morrill Hall in both the Campbell Gallery (first floor) and the Reiman Gallery (lower level).

Artist Talk & Reception This Week!

Join Minnesota-based artist Harriet Bart for the opening of her solo exhibition. The event begins with an artist talk discussing the evolution of the artist’s practice over the last 50 years, followed by an opening reception of the exhibition.

Joyce J. Scott is a dynamic artist and performer, best known for her use of beadwork as her artistic medium of choice. Scott is esteemed for her technical skills, transforming the rich tradition of beadwork with her own interpretations of the peyote stitch. She pushes the boundaries of beadwork, reflecting a narrative of what it means to be Black in America.

Throughout her illustrious career Scott has garnered numerous accolades, including a McArthur Fellowship (2016) and four honorary doctorates. Mobilia Gallery has represented and exhibited Scott’s work for over 40 years.

Sketching on Napkins | The Jack Trice Tribute Story: Breaking Barriers

This program will explore the recent sculpture Breaking Barriers by public artist Ivan Toth Depeña that honors, commemorates and memorializes Trice's campus legacy as expressed through the power of art. A preview video featuring the creative process of creating Breaking Barriers with Depeña will be presented.

Join Dr. Brianna Burke, ISU Associate Professor of American Indian Studies and English, to learn more about the importance of beadwork to multiple American Indian nations. Participants will have the opportunity to try different beading techniques.

Join former Pohlman Fellow Sarah Bartlett (M.A. Anthropology ’23) as she explores a new way to look at ancient pottery to better include female voices in our discussion of Ancient Athens with ethnographic consideration of early interpretations of the ancient world.
