November is the time to prepare your garden for the colder winter months so it looks its best when spring returns. As we walk around the grounds, we’ll talk through what our horticulture staff are doing in the Gardens at this time and will discuss what is and isn’t getting cut back and why. We’ll also discuss adding mulch for cold protection, removing and composting annuals, and other best practices.

Fall is the time to plant bulbs for beautiful blooms that come up in spring and make everyone smile! Reminiscent of our Garden-in-Place Seed Kits this past spring, we have developed themed bulb kits that include the bulbs and instructions needed to grow successful blooms in your backyard. Choose between a sunshine yellow daffodil kit, a classic red tulip kit, or a splash of color tulip kit. No backyard? You can also grow these in a large container.

Here are your kits to chose from:

NOVEMBER GARDENING TIPS

Flowers
  • Tulips can still be successfully planted through the middle of November.
  • Leave foliage on asparagus, mums, and other perennials to help insulate crowns from harsh winter conditions.
  • Bulbs like hyacinth, narcissus, and tulip can be potted in containers for indoor forcing.
