As usual we have been using the slower winter weeks to take care of some maintenance chores around the lodge.  You may remember we were in the middle of replacing the roof shingles when I wrote the last newsletter.  They had to finish that job by pushing 12 inches of snow off the last section of roof.  Then we got rid of the flying squirrel family in the attic and closed off all his ins and outs.  The rains came in late January and into  February leaving muddy puddles in the driveway for days.  It was time for new gravel.  The rain let up for a day and we were lucky enough to get a hauler that could spread a near perfect 2" layer right out of his dump truck.  We've also done a bunch of painting, re-oiled the pine floors, and refinished the kitchen cabinet doors along with the usual extra cleaning duties.  We are ready for the busy season to start.  So we hope to see you soon.

FEI World Equestrian Games - September 11-23, 2018
One of the largest sporting events ever held in North Carolina is coming to the Asheville area! The Tryon International Equestrian Center will host the 14-day FEI World Equestrian Games™ Tryon 2018 (WEG). It's the "Olympics" for horses. In fact, WEG is held every four years, halfway between the Summer Olympic Games cycle. This is only the second time it has been held in the United States. There will be top riders, horses and visitors from all over the world!
The Games are administered by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the worldwide governing body of equestrian sport. It is the major international championship event for the eight core equestrian disciplines of show jumping, dressage and para-equestrian dressage, eventing, driving, endurance, vaulting and reining. The recently opened Tryon International Equestrian Center has ambitious building plans for 2018 to create a premier world-class venue. You can check out the new changes and get a taste of the competition at several events held in May and April.
