Raffi Speaks to Teachers - May 1
At a Surrey Teachers Association convention, elementary teachers from all over Surrey, BC, packed the gym at Princess Margaret Secondary for a keynote speech by Raffi: Child Honouring in the Digital Age. Throughout his talk, Raffi outlined the 9 Child Honouring principles and how they apply to our everyday lives. He then drew on his book
Lightweb Darkweb to discuss the challenges of parenting and teaching in the digital age. Raffi closed with a new verse for the "beluga grads" in attendance: "Sing a song of peace, sing with all your friends, we need to hear you!"

BC Teachers - Gift Offer a Success & Raffi's BLOG
In support of BC public education, the Centre offered free copies of our colour booklet,  My Drawing Our World , to the first 200 BC teachers to sign up - an offer which we extended due to an overwhelming response.

We received requests from over 350 BC teachers and lots of positive feedback from teachers loving the booklet as well as showing their appreciation for the support Raffi gave them during the strike action.

Raffi also wrote a blog about the education crisis titled,

Christy Clark Is Balancing the Budget at the Expense of Kids and Teachers. Read the full blog here.

(A Documentary Film Event)

Timed to spearhead the Celebrations of Earth Day this year,
the Centre and Seven Ravens Farm & Permaculture Academy, held a special screening of  INHABIT: A PERMACULTURE PERSPECTIVE  with its Director, Cinematographer & Editor, Costa Boutsikaris.

This was a successful SOLD OUT event at the Fritz Theatre on Salt Spring Island and provided a great opportunity for the community to watch the film, learn about Permaculture and engage in an informative and lively conversation.

If you missed the film, it's not too late!  Click here  to rent or purchase the film and the Centre will receive 20% of the profits. A great way to give to the Centre while watching a fabulous documentary.

Book Recommendations

In Wired Child, you will find a common-sense guide rooted in the science of behavior and brain function to build the strong families kids need, promote their success in school, limit kids' risk of developing a video game/Internet addiction, and encourage their productive use of technology.

Child psychiatrist Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., and early childhood expert Mary Hartzell, M.Ed., explore the extent to which our childhood experiences shape the way we parent. They explain how interpersonal relationships directly impact the development of the brain, and offer parents a step-by-step approach to forming a deeper understanding of their own life stories, which will help them raise compassionate and resilient children.
