April's Bits And Pieces

Thank God it's Spring. Looks like we might finally be heading into warmer and brighter weather!

In April's Bits And Pieces, I wanted to share with you a super fun and colorful Flower Art Installation for the outside of your home using colorful, plastic plates.

Of course, Mother's Day is approaching, so I have some great Mother's Day gifts for you in my Etsy shop. We all have concerns about what is sure to be rising prices in just about everything, so I wanted to share designs for the Mom's in your lives that are beautiful and unique, but very reasonably priced.

I share some pictures and links below.

Show season for me will begin in May. Where will I be? Dates and locations will be below. I am back in the studio after my knee replacement surgery, and I am working on some new ideas and designs for you.

There is a workshop coming up @ the Floral Park Library on April 29th. I will be teaching everyone how to make a pretty wire wrapped ring using semi-precious beads. This class is popular, so sign up early!

New Tutorial: Plastic Plate Flower Installation

Plastic Plate Flowers

This was pretty easy to create. You will need 5-6 different colored 9" plastic plates and 3 different colored 7" plastic plates, a hot glue gun, and a stapler. Watch the Video below to see how it is done.

Great Gifts For Mom

Mom's are special everyday, so let's make her feel extra special on Mother's Day. I have a great selection of handmade jewelry that won't break the bank. Each of my pieces are handmade with love by me in my studio. They are all unique--just like mom. I use 14K gold filled and sterling silver components and ear wires, as well as fun beads.

A few selections with descriptions are below. Click the link to my shop to see more.

Sea Turtle Necklace

I came across these adorable, tumbled glass sea turtle beads. They are the focus in this simple bead necklace. I paired the turtle beads with slices of beautiful semiprecious slices of Yellow opal, Peach moonstone, Peridot, Aquamarine, and crystal clear Herkimer diamonds. They are strung on 14K gold-filled wire and securely wrapped /attached to a USA made 14K gold-filled chain.

Bluebird Of Happiness

Adorable Bluebird earrings will get you noticed! Plus, how much fun are these earrings?

I designed and made these earrings using pretty, matte, glass bluebird beads. These bluebirds sit on tumbled sea glass style green 'leaves'. A small glass yellow bead adds more color.

Blue Enamel Earrings

Pretty sky blue floral earrings! My enameled jewelry is all one of a kind, when you sift and place the components in the kiln to fire--no two results are exactly the same!

The shapes were cut from 20g copper. The backs have been counter enameled a dark blue. The fronts have had 2 coats of light blue enamel sifted on and then fired in the kiln. I used liquid enamel to do the decorations

Easy Peasy Chicken Verbena

Ingredients

  • 4-6 chicken cutlets pounded thin
  • vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (your choice)
  • 2 oz. pignoli nuts
  • 4 0z. tomato sauce
  • 6 oz chicken broth
  • 3 TBLS salted butter
  • pinch of oregano/salt/pepper to taste

Directions

Dredge the cutlets in flour, and saute in 1 TBS or so of vegetable oil over a med-high heat, until LIGHTLY browned. This will go quickly as the cutlets have been pounded thin. Do not overcook them, or they will be tough.

In another pan, put the rest of the ingredients (reserving 1 TBS of the butter on the side), and turn heat to high.

As the Cutlets are done, add them to the pan with the sauce ingredients. Allow this to cook until the sauce has reduced to a thicker consistency. Turn off the flame and add the reserved 1 TBS of butter. Adjust the seasonings to your taste.

Serve over rice/farro/or pearled pasta, and with a good crusty bread to capture the sauce!

I also quickly saute a container of organic spinach to serve as a side dish.

Bon Appetit
