If you look at anything in PCA you will know PCA is turning 70 this year. The Anniversary date is September 13th and Redwood, like all other PCA Regions, will celebrate in style. Details will follow soon but you will want to save this date on your calendar.
There is so much interesting history in PCA. I am going to start sharing a bit with you in an article each month.
Looking at the Club membership I am surprised to see how many of you are not taking full advantage of your membership. Redwood has approximately 750 members and barely half have a family or affiliate co-member. The family or affiliate member does not need to be a spouse or have any ownership interest. This is just someone you want
to share in the benefits of membership. It can be family or even just a friend.
Do you have kids? Grandkids? Consider getting them a membership in PCA juniors. It’s open to kids from newborn to 18 years old, free and I understand a lot of fun. They receive a welcome package, monthly newsletter and have special events. I have been around PCA since I was 8 years old and I wish there had been a junior’s program for me.
The best way to enjoy your membership is to attend an event. We have so many coming up in April, May and June. Whether you like competition or social events we have something for you. Also check out the calendars of the neighboring regions. As a PCA member you may attend events of any other Region. Not sure? Try POSSE. This is our monthly cars and coffee at Novato Oaks. You do no need a reservation, no cost, no set time. Just come out, park and meet some fellow Porsche enthusiasts.
The days are getting longer and warmer. It’s a great time to come out and enjoy your Porsche with fellow Porsche friends. Hope to see you at an event soon.
Questions? Email me.

Vice-President
Hello Redwood Region Members,
April is here and if you are anything like me, it’s time to back the Porsche out of the garage, clean it up and hit the road! Driving my car in the spring brings a sense of freshness and amazement at the changing of the seasons. Just this past week my wife Katherine and I took several drives into the Napa Valley both to the north and south to see the vineyards coming to life with bright beautiful green shoots and buds.
If you haven’t done a drive lately, think about joining your fellow Redwood Region members on one of our upcoming driving tours. Check out our calendar which has all the Region’s events listed and, there are many more in the works. Redwood calendar.
If you are looking to sell or buy a Porsche, May 17th is a date that you should save.
Hi Tec Automotive in San Rafael, who is one of our sponsors, is hosting an intuitive buy
and sell clinic where you can gain some knowledge into the buying and selling market.
Sign up soon for an exciting opportunity on May 24th with our Coffee, Shine and Drive event at Auto Sport Detailing in Santa Rosa. One lucky car will be picked to win a Level 2 Paint Correction and a premium Modesta Ceramic Coating (a $2,000 value)! Don’t miss that opportunity!
And, as always on the 4th Sunday from 8AM -10AM, is the Porsche Owners Sunday Social Event (POSSE) at the Vintage Oaks in Novato... Gather to share stories, coffee, friendship and meet fellow Porsche enthusiasts. It’s a good time!
In just a few weeks I’m off to Europe and to Stuttgart, Germany and the home of Porsche to tour the museum and factory. We’ll be spending a few days in the city to enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors of the German culture. We then head to Zurich and Lake Lucerne and then board a river
cruise up the Rhine River ending in Amsterdam where have reservations at several special restaurants and museums. We are looking forward to seeing the Rhine River Region of Europe.
I’m extremely honored to be your Vice President and I look forward to seeing you at one or more of our future events and, if we haven’t met, please introduce yourself. I’d love to meet you!
Feel free to reach out anytime at email.
Auf Wiedersehen

Uncle Ferry wants you to join the P.O.S.S.E!
April 27, 8 am to 10 am.
What’s this, you ask?
It’s the Porsche Owners Sunday Social Event…
Who’s invited?
Any Porsche owner or driver, regardless of the model they have.
When is it?
Every fourth Sunday of the month from 8 am to 10 am.
Where is it?
In front of Starbucks, at the familiar Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, in Novato.
How much will it cost?
Nothing, nada, zip, zero.
Why is this happening?
It’s an opportunity for Porsche owners to have an informal get-together, at a North Bay location, before going to brunch, heading to the hills, cruising to the coast… or, wherever one wishes to drive that day. It’s a chance to meet and talk to your fellow Porsche owners. It’s a chance to put names and faces with the cars. It’s a chance to show off your ride!
See you there!

4th Annual Ironstone Concours d'Elegance
Murphys, California
September 25 to 28, 2025
| |
Jeff Hall
Tour Leader
If you’ve joined us before for the Murphys weekend featuring the Ironstone Concours then you know what a special weekend it is… If you haven’t been to the event before, well, there’s a reason we’ve doing this going on four years!
We caravan up to Murphys from the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield stopping along the way for a relaxing lunch before motoring into town. Most of the members stay in the Victoria Inn which we usually take over each year. We take advantage of the beautiful, well- and recently paved roads with twists, turns and tumbles through Calaveras County. A longer tour on Friday includes lunch and a shorter tour on Saturday finishes at our own, private corral (on a grassy knoll) just outside the Concours gates. A tailgate party has been known to break out prior to entry into the event!
| |
This year, renown Porsche artist, Kelly Telfer (look for his name on the "WERKS Reunion" posters every year) will be treating us to lunch at his studio in Sonora! We’ll also be enjoying our ‘historic’ BBQ dinner at the Murphy's Historic Hotel patio on Friday evening! Saturday dinner is usually something new every year.
And less we forget, the Concours is on Saturday with 300 cars featuring 30 or so marques and, yes, there usually are a few Porsches mixed in between the Packards, Allards, Jaguars, Panteras and antique Airstream trailers… The ‘pre-war’ (WW I) car races are not to be missed! When was the last time you witnessed helmet-less drivers in goggles in jump suits firing up a 1915 car that may or may not make it around the dusty, dirt track? Somehow, they all do!
| |
Registration will open in May BUT, the most important thing is to reserve a room! We have 3-4 rooms still available at the Victoria Inn! There is some availability at the Murphys Historic Hotel (a touch more rustic).
If you’re interested in reserving a room, please contact Jeff Hall. Do not call the hotel as we have reserved a block of rooms, but you must go through Jeff.
Here is the Victoria Inn website. So, if you’re interested, the room is of the utmost importance – registration for tickets, dinners, etc. will be available soon!
You're also welcome to arrange your own accommodations in Murphys or Angel’s Camp, where additional lodging options are available.

PCA is turning 70 on September 13, 2025. As we look to the Anniversary celebration I thought I would share a bit of history over the next few months.
In 1955 Porsches were becoming more popular in the US but there was limited technical information, service opportunities and parts. A handful of owners led by Bill Sholar formed the “Gripe Group” and started meeting to share information. This evolved into an official Porsche Club of America. They had their first meeting in Washington DC on September 13th 1955 with 12 members.
| |
As PCA turns 70 there are now 149 Regions across the US and Canada with just over 108,000 primary members and 164,000 total members.
Sharing information is still a valuable part of membership but there is so much more. Whether you like social events or competition PCA has something for you.
If you want more information there is a great History of PCA on the PCA website.
Also, here is the PCA Video.

Welcome to all of our new members. Our 2025 Porsche year is off and running. The “Motor Social” event is held the 2nd Saturday of the month at Strawberry Village in Mill Valley and co hosted by Porsche Marin. The event is a great opportunity to meet other, like minded Porsche enthusiasts (as well as owners of other marques). Porsche Marin kindly reserves one of their prime spots for the PCA Redwood Region to interact with Porsche owners and admirers.
Don’t forget about anther great “Cars and Coffee” event, the Porsche Owners Sunday Social Event. P.O.S.S.E. It is a Porsche only gathering held on the 4th Sunday of each month. This is a wonderful chance for new members to come to a casual event, see a bunch of P-cars and mingle with like-minded folks! See you on April 27 at the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center in Novato (in front of Starbucks) at 8am.
There have already been two high level Porsche racing events at Sonoma Raceway. The Fanatec GT World Challenge races on the weekend of March 28 featured many GT3 and GT4 teams competing with Porsches. On the weekend of April 4, all teams were featuring Porsches as it was the Porsche Sprint Challenge and Porsche Endurance Challenge, USA West and North America. The weekend also included Porsche’s GT Track Day. This is an opportunity tailored for Porsche GT owners to learn how to get the most out of their GTs.
| | Our Redwood Region is very active and, as always, we encourage you to take part in the many and diverse activities sponsored by the club. There really is something for everyone. The Region’s monthly newsletter that you are reading, der Riesenbaum, is a great source for finding upcoming events and reading about events that have recently occurred. Another great source to learn about upcoming events is the Region’s website. | | This membership report is a part of our April der Riesenbaum but addresses changes that occurred during March, of this year. At the end of March our Redwood Region had a total of 1,138 active Members/Co-members, 9 active Associate members and 11 active Test Drive participants. We had 38 of our Redwood Region members celebrate their five year, or more, PCA membership anniversaries in March. Of these 38, there is a 3-way tie for longest tenured PCA members! They are: Tricia Crane, Stanley Crane and Marvin Goss. All three are celebrating 43 years of continuous PCA membership. Congratulations (x3)! | | All members are invited to join in our monthly Board Meetings held on the last Tuesday of each month. We meet at Torches Restaurant at 265 Petaluma Blvd N, in downtown Petaluma. Everyone is welcome AND the club picks up your dinner tab (food and non-alcoholic beverages only). As always, please email me any questions about membership. The April meeting will occur on the 29th. The meeting starts at 7 PM but it is good to arrive early to make sure that your food order gets in on time. We look forward to seeing you there. | |
Stacy O'Connell
Autocross Director
Autocross season has arrived! Our first autocross of the year took place Sunday, April 6, and it was a great day at Thunderhill Raceway! We had 48 drivers come out for the action, and since this was also the first Zone 7 autocross event of 2025, those chasing Zone points were especially eager to get their competition on.
This marks our second season using the CLOKKR timing system (developed by fellow autocrosser and current SVR President, John Leet) and, for the first time, we activated its multi-course capability. Instead of a single best time, each driver’s top run from the morning and afternoon sessions was combined to determine TTOD (Top Time of Day). The result? A format that cranked up the pressure and rewarded consistency all day long.
Results will be posted soon on our site, but in the meantime, you can check them out here on CLOKKR. A big thanks to the SVR autocross team for sharing the Zone 7 weekend with us and letting us use their trailer and gear!
Our next Redwood autocross is October 19—once again a Zone weekend with SVR at Thunderhill. It's never too early to mark your calendars.
Looking to autocross closer to home? The ESCA (Empire Sports Car Association) series at the Sonoma Fairgrounds is a fantastic option. Several Redwood members already compete there, including Grady Carter, who took home their Top Driver award at their March event.
ESCA has seven events remaining in 2025, with the next one coming up on Sunday, May 11. Their courses strike the perfect balance between fun and challenge, and the team is incredibly welcoming. If you're curious how your car (and your skills) stack up on a cone-guided course, come on out! Email me or ESCA Autocross chair Craig for more details.
New to autocross? A little rusty? No problem. Instructors are available at both locations to help you get comfortable, stay safe, and have a blast! Hope to see you out there!

Rick Duste
Redwood Region sponsored Rohnert Park Tech High Robotic Team takes second place at Sacramento Northern California High School Robotics Competition.
With help from the Region, Tech High students designed and built two new battle bots this year and took second and fourth place at the regional High School competition held in Sacramento. The team of students had to support, repair, and modify the robots throughout multiple 3-minute elimination rounds to make it to the final pairing. Second place Angular Aggression was an all-new design for 2025 while 4th place Rev-3 was a new build consisting of a refinement of the previous design the Team has competed with over the last couple years. Designing and constructing the robust EV battery powered drive and control system and integrating the rotating weapon mechanism required strategic thinking and design concepts along with selecting strong yet lightweight
materials to meet the 15-pound weight limit.
| |
The students used the school’s CAD drawing programs, made 3D printed prototype parts and learned hands on fabrication skills, including operating of the school’s CNC equipment to build the final components.
The program rules require the students do all the work themselves with adult supervision only to insure safety.
| | The Team consists of students enrolled in Rohnert Park’s Tech High which focuses on engineering, science and math. The Region is proud to have supported these aspiring future designers and engineers that just could be designing the EV and hybrid Porsche’s of the future. Congratulations on a job well done. | |

NEW FOR 2025
We are excited to announce that we have a new Parade Registration System! This system was built specifically for PCA and Porsche Parade and will allow for a more seamless registration process. In Phase II you will register for Banquets / activities / tours and more.
A quick note, be sure your info is current with PCA National. This ensures that your profile and settings are correct. This info is used for mailing / emails and by your Region for their communication methods (correct info makes registering for national events seamless)
Please ensure that your PCA membership information, including address, home/cell phone numbers, and, most importantly, email address, is up to date on your PCA member account.

Bruce Mooers, President of Sales for the Far Niente wine group and Redwood Region member has wanted us to visit the Napa Vault which is a car condominium located on the Napa river for some time now.
Sunday, April 6th was an event at the Napa Vault called the Spring
Fling and a small number of us were invited to attend.
We met at Autobahn Automotive in Santa Rosa with Zach Oberlander, the owner, for coffee and donuts. Zach informed us of the services that Autobahn Automotive can provide for both Porsches and BMW's!
With Past President, Ben Davoren in the lead, we headed out on a nice 35 mile tour to the Napa Vault on roads not usually traveled. The pace was slow and easy with great scenery on an early Sunday morning.
| | As we arrive at the Vault, we were greeted by Laura Duffy, who is the Sales Manager and she told us where to park. We were the only car club there with a few McClarens, Ferrarri's and Lamborghini's along with a smattering of 1950's American cars. | | Our Member, Bruce Mooers, not only does he have 3 Porsches. He also collects vintage Corvairs... like having 5 of them; how about a Corvair convertible with 13 miles on it! The star of his collection is a 1966 Corvair Yenko Stinger, one of 100 made. This car has a flat six rear engine with about 240 HP! Thinking back, Porsche did not have a car other than race cars with more HP in 1966! | |
On a personal note in 1964 at Ferndale High School in Ferndale, Michigan drivers training course, yours truly learned to drive in a Corvair. Ralph Nader's book “Unsafe at any speed” killed the Corvair!
Also think back to the fact that Corvair had the first Turbo installed beating Porsche by 13 years (1962 vs 1975)!
| | The event also had food... little mini tacos and sliders along with cheeses and salami's along with cookies and the all important Far Niente wines being poured! | |
The day started out overcast but once we got there the Sun appeared and warmed us up!
We will have more events at the Napa Vault in the future and look for them at Porsches on the Plaza and the Zone 7 Concours as Laura lives in Sonoma!
It was a great Sunday event..thanks to Bruce Mooers and Laura Duffy and Zach Oberlander! Remember...it's not just the cars...it's the people!

Craig Steele
I have attended nine Porsche Parades since the summer of 2014, and my first experience with a long-distance PCA tour event was a Parade. In 2021, I won the PCA Parade Long Distance Award for driving 2,293 miles to French Lick, Indiana—earning a set of Michelin tires in the process.
This summer, I’m planning a solo drive from my home in Santa Rosa to Oklahoma City, OK, from July 1-5, and I’m inviting interested drivers and navigators to join me. We'll meet at Victorville’s California Route 66 Museum on July 1 at 9 am and follow the historic Route 66 (I-40) all the way to the 2025 Porsche Parade in Oklahoma City (July 6-12).
The route covers approximately 1,725 miles and takes about 26 driving hours. I plan to take five days, staying overnight in Kingman, AZ; Holbrook, AZ; Albuquerque, NM; and Amarillo, TX while exploring Route 66 sights along the way. We’ll arrive in Oklahoma City on July 5 (I’m registered a day early at the OKC Courtyard).
If you'd like to join me on this Route 66 journey, email me. I’ll share my planned routes, queue sheets, and recommendations for additional stops. Please note: This is not a Redwood Region-sponsored event, so it will not be covered by PCA insurance. However, I’ll help keep the group together using radio communication and cell phones.
After Parade, I’ll be returning along the same route but adding stops in Santa Fe, Las Vegas, and South Lake Tahoe before heading back to Santa Rosa. You might also want to extend your trip to visit incredible Southwest destinations like the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Monument Valley, or Bryce Canyon.
Hope to hear from you!
