Celebrate Women @ Your Library

Letter from the Library Director

DRG Oct 2021 Retouched.jpg

Debra Rhodes Gibson

Library Director

St. Johns County Public Library

The light of longer spring days is finally here, and it’s nearly impossible not to feel the possibilities inherent in the turning of the season. Nothing matches the rising energy of spring, both in nature and within ourselves. Maybe our lives begin to feel less off-kilter, more aligned with what we wish and hope they would be. And it’s not always that things are so different, but our perspective changes.

March is Women's History Month, commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, is a global celebration of the economic, political, cultural, and social achievements of women. We cannot succeed without girls and women and this month is dedicated to appreciating their efforts. Check out our additional resources recognizing Women’s History Month in this newsletter.

New users will only be able to download the Libby app going forward. This change won't affect existing OverDrive app, though we do encourage switching to Libby now to continue enjoying all of your favorite OverDrive content.

Celebrate Women's History Month

“From the first settlers who came to our shores, from the first American Indian families who befriended them, men and women have worked together to build this nation. Too often, the women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength, and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well," President Jimmy Carter’s message to the nation designating March 2-8, 1980, as National Women’s History Week.

Celebrate Women's History Month with a book or two about women who have had an impact shaping our current cultural landscape.
